BarBurn 2015?!

Post by BurnerFinn » Fri Aug 22, 2014 4:35 am

Hello!

I'm a wannabe burner from Finland. I've dreamt about going for a few years now. This year the urge to get there has started to become overwhelming. I've watched tons of youtube videos of BM and read tons of BM related stuff I could find.

Who am I?

I'm 35 year old bloke from Finland. Married, three kids. I think I have a positive attitude on life. I always want to learn new things. Curiosity is everything for me. I'm interested in all sorts of nerdy stuff related to science and technology. I work with "the internet". ;) I am an atheist. I work too much and I need a break, haha. I don't see myself as an artistic person, which is one of the main reasons of wanting to come to BM. I think if you want to become a smarter person, it helps to surround yourself with smart people. Same goes with art, I suppose.

Why do I want to be a part of BM?

At this stage of my life, I feel like I need to take a break of "life". I need to take a step to the unknown and hopefully become a better person in the process of doing so.

Someone on the ePlaya mentioned about Maslow's hierarchy of needs. I suppose I have the bottom part pretty well covered in my life. Now I need to try and climb up and see what's in there. Self-actualization: morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts?

Going to BM alone?

So far it looks like I will be going solo. My wife is NOT someone who'd enjoy a week of camping in a desert. :)

Who to camp with?

I'd really like to join a theme camp. Especially one that runs a bar.

I think alcohol is a great social lubricant. I'd really like to be a facilitator in making people meet each other and become friends. In the process, I'd like to make a lot of new friends for myself.

I will start looking for theme camps with bars for the 2015 burn. Any suggestions for awesome bars which are setting up for 2015?

For those of you who will be a running a camp with bar in 2015:

Please get in touch with me if you need more workforce (unless I contact you first)!

In addition to being awesome, here's what I can offer to your bar:
- I can put in multiple of hours of work every day
- I can serve drinks, gather moop, do whatever stuff needs to be done every day
- I can help to build & take down the bar (I've built a big house for my family so I have a lot of building experience, especially with wooden structures)
- I have no problem in lifting and carrying heavy stuff if needed
- I'm a pretty good cook and enjoy cooking for other people
- I can/will donate money for buying the booze to the bar

What I hope to receive from the camp I join (please comment if you think this is realistic!):

I'm flying over from Finland. This makes it pretty much impossible for me to haul in tons of stuff. This goes for everything from RV, cooking gear, bike etc. I really hope to share all of this "big stuff" with other people in the camp. Obviously I don't expect others to provide everything for me, free of charge. I'll be more than happy to pay my share of the RV rent, gas etc. I can only contribute with tons of time & effort and some money but not with a lot stuff. :/

So, yeah... there goes my lengthy "hello" to ePlaya!

Sadly I won't see BRC in 2014. I'll do my best to participate online. I'm now starting to prepare for 2015. Fingers crossed, I hope I'll find an awesome group of people to share camp in 2015.

See you in 2015!

Please read through the threads in the theme camp sub-forum, and look at the list of camps on the main site (burningman.com). Start picking out bars that appeal to you. Most theme camps aren't looking for people now, especially now, and they tend to be somewhat picky on whom they will take. Find some that stand out to you and email or personal message them with something about how excited you are by what they do (don't fake it, you could be living with them for a week) and what you have to contribute. Also, the more time you spend on this board, the more people you're likely to get to know and the easier finding a camp and a ticket (if you miss out on all the sales, and don't expect that you wont) will get. You don't have to be as dedicated as some of us are, but being a presence can help. Good luck!

heck, what's a good, Finnish--or Swedish, if you're a swedish speaking Finn--toast? Or, maybe you should invent a Molotov Cocktail for your bar...

And me, I love Moomintrolls and Finntroll--so Finland's okay by me.
