Hey guys - sorry if this has been covered in another topic but I didn't see a direct answer when searching....
Our camp has outgrown the cube truck scenario, not to mention the enormous waste of gas and danger of getting it there.....I'm curious if anyone has shipped/or if we're allowed to ship a shipping container from the LA/Joshua Tree/Southern California area directly to our camp on the playa.
I appreciate the help!

Yes, I believe you are. I know other camps do. I also know that there are containers just dropped off in a space where people can access them, but not at the camp.
Your driver/shipping company will have to have a vendors' permit. I don't know the specifics, but start researching this stuff now. You don't want to have rented your truck, loaded it, and not have it able to get on the playa.
Read up on the burningman.com website and contact the organization itself for specific questions.

There is also a program where an empty container will be placed at your camp site and to fill it at the end of the week and it gets stored for you *somewhat* locally and then the following year you get it back but it has a very long waiting list.

You also have to buy the container, and there's no access except at the burn, which means repairs will still have to be trucked out and back in the next year.

Of course people have shipped containers to the playa. All you need to do is make all the fucking arrangements and coordinate your efforts with Burning Man's Outside Services team ([email protected], or very soon [email protected]). You and your provider would be responsible for obtaining OSS credentials (for playa delivery/pickup) as well as obtaining a BLM special recreational permit (as all businesses whose operations touch the playa would). That is something of a nest of pigs in the red tape department, it's probably in your best interest to start working those details out sooner. I'd recommend that anyone in your shoes first start with their local regional group, in the hopes that you can connect with any other groups in your area that are doing something similar and you're able to share the load in the logistics department. Good luck!
