Is Ticket Fly going to be used again this year?

Post by louisacrystal » Tue Dec 30, 2014 11:20 am

I didn't see anything about who is handling the ticket sales for 2015. I'm wondering if we are going to be using Ticket Fly again?
I have gone out to find myself. If I get back before I return, Please keep me here until I get back. Thank you!

I read the JRS and it says: "Were using the same sale structure as 2014" If I read between the lines I would assume they would use it? Not sure.

Yes, ticketfly is being used again last year. Seemed like for their first time around they did reasonably ok. My cousin worked for them last year and said that they put a lot of work into it. The snafu with the directed sale codes not going through for some of us was supposedly due to the org trying to reassign already used passes, and was not their fault.

What are your thoughts on their performance?

I think the ticket fulfillment (shipping) went on far too long, and really began to put some people in a serious bind, especially those with airline tickets set to go soon, anxiously waiting by their mailboxes.

If they can get the last batches out sooner this year, then I think they will be on the right track.

I agree.. that was something that stressed me out a good bit too. My cousin doesn't work there anymore, but I'm sure she has people that she pass that along to. They really need to ship about a month or more earlier than they did. Do you think that the late shipping was intentional so that people utilized STEP rather than working things out amongst themselves? It seems like a scalper-prevention move by the org to me, but perhaps she'll have some intel on it.

I assumed that it took longer than they realized it would. They were pretty damn seamless on the other end, from what people said.

There was a problem with the entry tickets on Burner Express . Everyone had to jump through hoops in Gerlach instead of just scanning their tickets like was expected. They were blaming ticket-fly.

Judging from some of the responses on eplaya and social media platforms, fulfillment could have gone better last year.

Does anyone know why the switch in ticket providers was made? I heard the event had simply outgrown the old provider, but am wondering if there were more specific reasons?

Seriously? The utter cluster=fuck of ticket buying day, year after year. Computers crashed while prospective ticket buyers sat on line for hours not knowing if it was going to lead to an actual ticket. If only we could split--ticketfly for the sale and the previous vendor for fulfillment.

I thought TicketFly did a much better job than whoever else was doing it before them. I think I might have read somewhere that the owner (or maybe just some employees) of the company was/were burners and they thought that might be an asset.
But take that with a grain of salt.

i think that ticketfly was chosen because the old provider had major challenges handling the sheer number of people attempting to purchase tickets at one time. since they do larger festivals and concerts, they were more equipped to deal with the onslaught. burning man was the biggest event they've ever done before though, so i think they did decently.

unsure about the burner express ticket issues. i do know that gate got new ticket scanner machines this year that caused a few hiccups here and there.

I can confirm that the owner/founder of ticket fly is a burner. Turns out that my mom knows his mother.

Then, and this is only speculation, I'd bet the owner of TicketFly was not happy with all the snafus, endless waits, crashes, etc. when buying tickets, based on his own personal experience trying to buy tickets, and approached BMORG and said they could do a better job and asked for the contract. (That's what I would have done.)

I'm not ashamed to admit my first thought was that this could be useful should fulfillment be an issue again this year.

The late shipping is definitely intentional, but it has nothing to do with STEP. It's to keep the tickets out of circulation as long as possible to make the counterfeiters jobs that much harder, hopefully lowering the number of people getting ripped off (but the desperate always seem to convince themselves that a shitty replica is a real ticket)

Late shipping is one thing, but when orders were still going out at the beginning of August, it became a clusterfuck for people who were starting their travels earlier than august 24.

Ticketfly was awesome. Fulfillment of orders definitely caused major stress... but I'm guessing scalpers and counterfeiters were the ones who were the most stressed about it. Last year was much smoother than 2013 (the only real basis for comparison in the sellout years).

Yes fulfillment could use a tweak. Last year I was in one of the last batches to go out and I didn't have my ticket in hand until less than a week before flying to Reno... MAJOR white knuckle experience.

Especially with the many reports of orders arriving with missing or extra tickets/VP's, not knowing if or when you were actually gonna get your tickets was definitely an extra bit of unneeded pre-burn stress...

Ah yes, I forgot about all the screwed up orders that were shipped. That was definitely a pretty major screw up that will hopefully not be repeated.

Well, if it's not significantly improved this year... I have no fucking idea what (if anything) the powers that be will do.

Search the ticket section in all of SF area or...Burning Man 2015 . The price listed is $40000. The area is (novato). This entrepreneur is looking to make a killing whether he provides everything or doesn't even show up. Either way, how do you spend forty grand on four people at the burn?

Craigslist:
Burning Man 2015 - $40000 (novato)
This is it tech boy. Time to start the bidding on your 2015 Burn.

I have 3 40' 2014 3 axle Prevost motor coaches with pull-outs that will make you dizzy. All food, all drinks, and all the everything else you could dream of is included. Each of you (4 Persons) per bus will have his/her serpa and a personal chef. They will be stationed nearby but not in your corral. 3 secondary vehicles will be equipped with showers and a hot tub for your convenience.

This is top shelf and very select.

Respond to add for consideration.
The $40 grand is for 1 ticket, not 4. For real???
