No to access internet on the sale day ! How to solve this ?

Hello,

I will be travelling in Burma all February, and in particularly remote areas (with no internet connections) around the 18th, date of the individual sale.
I would like to trust a friend to do the job for me on that day, but don't know what's the best way to do this.

If il give him access to my profil, I guess he can do evything from there (pre registration and access to the sale on the 18th). But what about payment ?
I read on the BM tickets support page that "The name on your ticket order will be the name associated with the credit or debit card used to purchase the order regardless of which name you may have used to sign up, or register."

What is the way to solve this issue. I never faced that situation before.

As I come from Europe, the tickets will have to be collected at willcall.

I guess you'll have to give your friend your credit card number, expiration date and the number on the back along with the exact name on the card.

Give your trustworthy friend cash to pay for the ticket/pass and have him use his own credit card to purchase your ticket. Afterwards you can have the name on the ticket changed to your name.

Just to be sure you can verify that it can be done by writing to [email protected] first.

Have you considered rating an Iridium or BGAN device for your trip? It might sound extreme but I for one cannot travel without some sort of Internet connection. Iridium / BGAN rentals are not expensive and a good fail safe should you need to get emails out or make emergency calls.

The Hughes HNS-9201 is your best bet and can be used for phone calls. Look around the web for rental rates.

This is the best option. The card name needs to match the registration for the sale/profile. You buy the card and load the money on it, then register the card with your name. Give the card and your burner profile info to friend and hope they are trustworthy and quick on the draw for the sale. It will sell out quickly.

I also agree that is this totally a first world problem! Traveling all over Burma and wants to get Burning Man tickets.

For actual ticketing support, contact [email protected]. As for community advice, I'd say give your friend the money and have them create a burner profile account and make the ticket purchase (everything should match up), then they can either transfer the order into your name or just hand you the tickets when they arrive.

If you want to go to Burning Man, I'd suggest NOT being in a remote area of Burma on the 18th!
There's a whole lot of people who want to go more than you do.

If you're unwilling to give someone else all your payment info, then wait until you come back and find a ticket. Thousands of people do it successfully every year...just sign up for STEP and put the word out within your local network of burners.

I was in Thailand in 2011 during the main sale. There are 1000s of internet cafes. I didn't want to log on and give up any info. It's pretty sketchy to use their computers for credit transactions. I skipped the burn that year. (Lottery year).

The best advice is for a trusted person--friend or relative, register their burner profile and order the tickets. If there are too many problems and obstacles with that, you can always attempt to get them on the OMG sale.
For an event that sales out quickly, you really need to have some solid contingencies in place.
