Installing the "Happiness" art wall in downtown San Mateo

This art installation was the brainchild of Rebecca Zito, Senior Management Analyst for the City of San Mateo. The mural is located at 3rd Ave and El Camino in downtown San Mateo.

The mural was created by Richard Felix of ArtistMobilUs as part of his "Anyone Can Paint" project with the them of "Happiness". Felix provides a big blank canvas and lets anyone get involved and paint anything the theme inspires them to put on the wall.

The structural installation was by Sextant Camp and ArtistMobilUs along with volunteers from the City of San Mateo.

The mural has polycarbonate facing and solar illumination at night.

The location has traditionally been somewhat drab. This installation is a temporary piece intended to be a first step in bringing public art to bear on a busy pedestrian thoroughfare.
