Find your talent. Bring it to the Playa!
Ok so it's been six weeks or so. And I've heard some complaints about how things have changed so much and become "over-regulated." Many, including myself, have suggested further attempts at educating newbies regarding etiquette, trash and Moop, and the 'spirit of the burn.'
I just wish to suggest to anyone pondering the arduous trek to the playa to take into consideration your contribution. It's far more fun to participate than to spectate kids. Let yourself go. Find your talent and bring it to the playa!
Be well.

That's why people use the mantra of "No Spectators" while out there.XS wrote:I just wish to suggest to anyone pondering the arduous trek to the playa to take into consideration your contribution. Spectating is in direct violation of the Blackrock City Code section 482 paragraph A. If you have a valid ticket, you can be charged with aggrivated spectating. If you are tripping, a lesser charge of involuntary spectating (cause you just cant help it) can be applied. The sentance is generally suspended with community service followed by one year of exile starting no later than Tuesday after man burn.

I had thought to set up a tent with piles and piles of comfy pillows where I could do henna tattoos and people could lounge and puff away on hookahs. I hadn't yet thought of a name for said camp, but I've still got some time, don't I?
Anyway, the dilemma I was facing was that I had hoped to perhaps pass out some business cards on the playa if people asked for contact info, not necissarily to make money once I returned to the real world, but to get my name into the community. I am an ameture tattoo artist and looking for people to practice on, perhaps even an apprenticeship, and I thought if people knew my name, it might come a bit easier. So...would anyone have a problem with having business cards on hand?

Oh man, you're a genius.
The practice part is actually more related to actual tattooing with a machine and such, I'm not too worries about my skill with a temporary medium, I just think it would be fun and a good excuse to draw on people with henna and permanent markers.

Redd,
Sorry, I missed the last line. That would not be a "B" card. That would be what I call a "Contact" card. I have my B cards for who I work for and I have what I like to think of as my PARTY cards.
And at the risk of getting pummeled for expouting “commerce” I will lay out my secret to you. A company called Avery makes business card stock that you can that download a micosoft word template that you use to create cards to print out on any printer. You can also add .jpg or .tiff images to the cards. The nice thing about this is you print them out 10 at a time so if your information (phone number) changes you are not trashing 500 preprinted cards.
I print my Party cards out in two colors. The red cards are actual contact information. The green cards list a phone number for Orange County Hazardous Waste (714) 834-4000
Fax (714) 834-4001 and are for idiots or people I never want to hear from again.
Just a possible solution for getting on in the modern world.

Great, that was exactly what I was thinking about anyway. Just something with a little image on it and a name and number. I had to make these things up as a class project and I happened to like the way they came out, so I thought I might get some use out of my work. Thanks for passing on your wisdom. I promise not to use it for too much evil...all the time.
So as long as I am in your good graces, please explain what “Henna” is exactly. I know it is used in India for ceremonial purposes such as weddings. A guy I work with showed my pictures of his wife tattooed with henna for a wedding on her hands and feet and he was sporting a major woodie.

Oh, that sounds beautiful. The henna, I mean, not the woodie. Well....ok, woodies are beautiful, too.
Henna is a sort of past that's mixed and applied to the skin to stain it. It's traditionally done for weddings and I can't think of anything more beautiful than the traditional Indian designs I've seen, but I also had it done in tribal dragon design once when I was in England. I think it lasted a week, it might have been longer, I'm not sure. I was thinking it would be fun to try my hand at the traditional designs as well as some tribal and then do other "tattoos" in permanent marker since that lends itself to colors.
