Need a camp!
Need a camp!
Hello Everyone. I'm a BM virgin from Portland, OR - managed to get a ticket and vehicle pass this year but I don't have a camp. Any suggestions on how to find one? Maybe one originating from Portland? I am a long-time handyman/builder - lots of skills to contribute!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Do you really need a camp? I thought I needed a camp as well. It is possible to burn solo. If you look around and get fastidious, you may find you can put your good money into equipment and things you need to look after yourself out there. Solo burn can be a good burn.
Re: Need a camp!
A handyman/builder is in the easiest position to camp solo if necessary. You'll have neighbors--all you have to do is avoid theme camp areas on the map you'll get at Greeters and introduce yourself to people before you start pounding stakes, just in case.
That said, you can meet locals through the regional section of the site and I highly recommend it.

You can also look through the 2015 Theme Camps forum for people still taking members (it's a little late in the year, so keep that in mind when you write) or email camps in the list that look very specifically "you". Write them with your strengths, it's a lot like a job search.

But don't be afraid to come alone if need be. Doing what you want WHEN you want is fantastic.
