PS you still didn't explain what is Gmail

gmail is google's free web email accounts ... sort of like yahoo mail or hotmail. The difference is that gmail is currently by invitation only. You get a gig of mail space for free. Also, you don't have mailboxes per se. You create "tags" and apply the tags to email. For example, if you wrote to me about a burning man camp idea, I might apply a "burning man" tag to the mail as well as a "rabbi" tag. Then I archive the message. In effect the labels allow the mail to be in more than one mailbox at the same time. I can them click on "rabbi" and see all your mail or click on "burning man" and see all the related emails. You mail would show up in both cases.

Think of it like a database approach to email that are indexed on tags with a gig. There is a part to it that has caused some problems for people ... just like on a google search, when you read your email, paid advertising links will appear down the right side of the screen of they happen to match any keywords in the mail. That is how google pays for the service and why they can offer a gig of mail for free.
