Howdy from Washington state!
Hi folks! This year will be my second burn of hopefully many more to come. I'm hoping we'll meet up with other Burners from WA while we're there.
I'm a housewife who also manages a small flock of Katahdin sheep (don't ask and I won't tell) and my husband is a software developer/engineer/wizard-type, which is what brought us to Burning Man last year. Thank you to the BM staff for inviting us back this year to help out with the traffic info stuff!
Not sure what else to say so if you're on playa, I should be somewhere around 6:30 and G. Hubby will be off servicing cameras and road sensors all day so I'll need folks to hang out with while he's gone. I'm really looking forward to being welcomed home again. Become one with the dust!!
(seriously though, I'm still finding playa dust in areas of my RV trailer I never even opened. This is after four solid days of stripping the trailer out and washing it, including inside drawers and cabinets. :B)
Edited to add: Why did I choose "somebodys-mom" as my user name? Because everywhere I went on playa last year I looked and felt like somebody's mom. I'm in my 50's and so many of you are so much younger. I felt like someone's mother who crashed the rave. LOL But hey, us old folks need some Burning Love too, you know?

Welcome.
I'm in my 50's too.
You'd be surprised how many of us here are more 'mature' types (at least chronologically speaking).

Also, do you volunteer for GPE?
I'm glad you're not deterred; I know Burners of all ages (especially in their 50's). Come meet a wide range of us here:Edited to add: Why did I choose "somebodys-mom" as my user name? ePlaya Meet & Greet
Wednesday 6pm of the Burn
Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro
7:00 & E <-- look how close that is to your camp! you really must come!
It's a potluck, so bring a little food, ice or something to drink (booze/soda/juice/mixer are all delightful choices; someone in another thread pointed out there were no non-alcoholic drinks last year beyond what people had in their canteens and camelbacks).

Hey! Actually I'm only in my early 20s, but that nasty plays dust has just wrecked me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! Stop by the Wanderers camp at 3:15 & F for toxic tonic and hot dogs every day at 4:00.
The truth is more important than the facts.

Savannah, I usually get this look when I tell people what I raise my sheep for, which is meat and pelts. Most of them tell me how awful I am while chowing down on the hamburger they just bought...which was essentially raised by farmers such as me. LOL It does make me giggle.
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!!! I'll definitely stop by for toxic tonic because that is a damn intriguing name!
Oh, because I'm a second-year relative burgin, what's GPE? I'm old, jog my memory. Also, thanks for the invite to the ePlaya meet and greet! I'll make a point of coming by!

GPE = Gate, Perimeter, Exodus.
The thankless, service oriented few who check for stowaways, guard our border and guide us safely back into defaultia.
Unlike DPW (who build the city and are LOUD AND FUCKING AGGRESSIVELY OBNOXIOUS!!! about it))), GPE are largely unsung heroes.
The few, the proud, GPE.
At the MnG, give yummy hugs to Ygmir and Elliot, GPE reps.

Hope to see you at the M&G
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hi, You have so much in common with so many of us. We are somebody's Mom too. To avoid confusion I'll just call you S & M. OK? (kidding) Tell me what your camp looks like and I'll find you while I'm out working in that area. Tent, trailer, carport, vehicle? give me a big clue. I'll be there in a couple of days and will look for you. Are you coming in early or after the gates open? I can think of endless activities you would love.

Hola!
I'm somebody's mom too! My camp is Dye with Dignity at 7 & G. There's lots of moms here (all ages) and some somebody's too. In fact 2 of my adult somebody's camp with me too. We have a silk scarf dyeing camp and will have a dye day on Monday from 11-3. If you can't make that come by any old afternoon for a Texas wine, a Reno PBR, margarita or sno cone!
Hope to see you in the dust!

Re: Howdy from Washington state!
I'll be in a 25 ft RV trailer with "Nomad" on the side. White with blue stripes. There'll probably be a day shade out beside the trailer. We also have a white Suburban that will be in and out of camp since my husband will need to leave site to service remote road cameras and road sensors. We arrive this coming Wednesday to get the network set up *gulp*.Ratty wrote:Hi, You have so much in common with so many of us. We are somebody's Mom too. To avoid confusion I'll just call you S & M. OMG, I love to dye things! I can't believe you'd be doing it on playa given the water restrictions, though. Then again, I tend to dye wool and that takes a LOT of water.
Washington wines are much better. I'll try to remember to bring you some.

Re: Howdy from Washington state!
Oh, before I go any further, I'm not actually a mother; I just look like someone's suburban housewife mother. My "babies" are cats, chickens and sheep, not actual children (although there was no lack of trying and I'm okay with my status). I didn't want to deceive anyone into thinking I'm an actual mother.

SM, I'll be there Tuesday, set up and helping my Dept head put up Potty Central HQ. I'll cruise by and look for you when I'm in the neighborhood. (Which is off and on all day.)

what part of WA are you from? I live on the east side! I'm in my 50's, at least for 3 more months!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Re: Howdy from Washington state!
As to the age thing. Last year was my first burn. I am not somebodies Mom, but I do have a daughter. I met her and her husband at Burning Man, they had been coming a number of years.
Anyway, I had some concerns about being older. I was 70 last year. Then I met a man who was 60, but he was there with his father also, who was 83.
all in all, I felt very welcome in our camp and everywhere I went.
This year I'm coming alone, but will be camping with Titicaca at 4:20 and Carnie.
I am also in a Motorhome. It seemed to clean up pretty good last year.
