Hello from the Emerald City
My name is Lykke (lee kah... or however you want to pronounce it in your head).
My first burning man might just be in 2016. I've been planning to go to burning man for several years... then my partner and I took an end of summer road trip through some Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California deserts and I fell in a mad kind of love with camping in the desert that has inspired me to make burning man participation more of a priority.
Prior to the desert road trip, my partner and I built an aluminum trailer that we were able to tow behind our tiny car. This set-up worked marvelously on some crazy ORV roads that took us to nights spent under the stars on the edges of canyons with scenery I’d only previously seen in movies. We developed strategies of coping with heat, lack of water and weather that differs significantly from our typical coastal and wet camping. This trip was a sort of dress-rehearsal for future desert camping, and has shaped our burning man plans and preparations.
By day I'm finishing up my final year of medical school and also [by night] completing a masters program in acupuncture/CHM. Going to burning man at the end of my education feels like it would be a fitting place to burn the symbolic pyre of what I have been and have been working to become for the past over 1/4 century of education, as I make the transition into being an actual Doctor and healer.
Reading up about burning man, going to local burner events and following the cyber rabbit hole of burning man preparations has given me hope that it could also be an environment where I feel free to contribute and be immersed artistically, a sense that I have been missing for the past few years primarily focused on science.
So anyway, Hello! This is me, hope to see you around.
(*I've already read the suggested readings, plan to have self-sustaining solo-camp set-up with my partner- for the first year at least [once we meet more people or find a camp that fits, perhaps that would be a future plan])

Welcome!
Sounds (to me) like you're doing it right.
Carry on.

Welcome to ePlaya, Lykke!
("Lykke" means "luck" in Norwegian. In that language it is also closely related to "happiness".)
May we admire a photo of this self-built trailer?

The trailer should be in the image attached below. (I had some difficulty with resizing to make it eplaya-friendly so hopefully the image is still clear.)

Welcome!
I live in Utah, whereabouts did you camp here? Southern Utah, I assume, that's where the most stunning scenery is, although the entire state can be very visual. I'm a fan of Valley of the Gods, myself.

Re: Hello from the Emerald City
Utah has some very impressive scenery! Valley of the Gods was nice(and our little car and trailer made it through the washouts and sand traps that the road through became at points surprisingly well)! We really liked the view and solitude at the nearby goosenecks state park, but honestly the most breathtaking part of that area was the descent from the mesa down towards VOG & goosenecks. That windy road down offered the most beautiful, colorful and awe-inspiring scenery. Also stayed outside of Natural Bridges Nat'l Monument, the slick rock outside of Moab, Zion Nat'l park (hiked the beautiful Narrows), & Goblin Valley state park was our favorite place to climb around. [The trailer picture was taken outside of "Area 51" on the way away from Death Valley when the car hit 55,555 miles (cue X-files music).]

welcome
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Welcome, Lykke! Awesome trailer. I'm glad you have a roof rack as well. Sufficient water takes up a lot of room.Lykke_Komorebi wrote:The trailer should be in the image attached below. (I had some difficulty with resizing to make it eplaya-friendly so hopefully the image is still clear.)
