Artist seeking Playa Gallery to hang canvas works

Post by 15minutesofLame » Thu Apr 07, 2016 4:28 pm

Hi all,

This would be my 6th year at the burn, but as wifey (who I met at the burn! :D ) is pregnant, we may have to miss this year...

Question though, any ideas or tips on any "Art Gallery Camps" / art displaying spaces on the Playa? like last year Android Jones had some stuff hanging alongside other painters inside a gallery tent on the playa

Id love to somehow have one of my framed canvas pieces on display somewhere, so at least a part of me is there :)

My pieces are quite large, 5x9 ft

Any ideas or info welcomed!

Center Camp comes to mind: https://burningman.org/event/volunteeri ... camp-cafe/
They have space inside for flat art, or you could volunteer to paint one of the huge panels around the outside. Your experience painting 5x9 would be useful in that regard.

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

I will say, don't send anything out there that you couldn't bear the thought of losing forever. I've seen campmates, friends, and even one of my own pieces get stolen or destroyed - despite being tied, or secured, or even having people watching the area. Hopefully something like that doesn't happen, and most of the time it doesn't, but at least understand that is a possibility.

Aside from Center Camp, you may want to keep your eye out for the partial list of theme camps that gets published in early summer, as well as keep an eye on the boards for theme camps. As they post threads and announce their intentions, you may find something that looks like it might be a good fit for the pieces you have in mind, and you can reach out to them directly.

Also, for clarification... are they 5' high and 9' wide, or 5' wide and 9' high?
