Labor day car wash

Post by antio » Wed Mar 15, 2017 1:05 pm

Apologies if this sounds like a silly question to the US folk here, but coming from the UK I've no idea (hence why I'm asking!)

We plan to take our rental car to a car wash on Labor day. I know it's a holiday and have prepared about the traffic. My question:
  • What are the chances of finding a car wash that's open on Labor day? We need to return the car on the Monday and wouldn't dare take it back without washing it first.
In general, can we expect small/large stores to be open or is pretty much everything shut?

Thank you in advance!

The Q&A is precisely for silly questions. Don't be bashful.

You're far likelier to find traffic queues at car washes on Labor Day than you are to find closed facilities. Most of the car washes in Reno (I presume you will at least be passing through Reno if not flying in/out of) are self-service, which will not only get you a better wash, but which will also afford you the opportunity to have fun spraying each other down with a high pressure washer.

It may - at this moment - sound unpleasant, but if it's 40C out and you have playa dust in all available crevices (which you will, regardless of your best attempts)...you may find you relish the hose.

Everything in Reno will be open and further, will be catering to Burners. You will also possibly run into the Rib Festival, which takes place in Sparks on Victorian Ave. You can try all manner of American barbecue there. Another great place to have a typical American meal (breakfast, precisely) and one of the best meals post-Playa is Big Ed's on 4th st. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the encouragement and the suggestions. Duly noted!

We fly out of Oakland Monday afternoon, so the plan is to depart BM Sunday afternoon to Reno, then depart Reno early am on Monday. So car wash has to be late evening or early morning. However, knowing that something will be open on Monday definitely helps! Thank you! :)

PS: I've only had the opportunity to play with a high-pressure washer once before, when travelling Route 66 and it was FUN! We'll definitely try the self service ones!!
