Hello from Vegas :D
I'm a virgin burner, hoping to be a sitter for psychedelic harm reduction in the Zendo tent. I got the call of Burning Man many years ago. After spending the most recent of those years trying to graduate and get licensed (RN 2017), I'm finally getting a taste of freedom and going home!
My husband and I are driving up from Las Vegas, NV and going to our first regional burn in July. We're not sure if we should rent a car, camper van, or bring my 2009 accord to the dust. We have a tent that we've taken to Symbiosis Gathering for a couple of days.
We're both active, nature-loving travelers. We like to camp and hike and explore Turtle Island. We can help set up, take down, clean up, build projects, spunk stuff up, listen to stories and share some of ours. We're helpers at heart and we want to get our hands dusty.

Ixmel and husband, Welcome!! Sounds like your on the hunt for a great time. Read everything and have fun with the prep. No need to over prepare. Don't over think it. Car or van. Rental or your own. It's all gonna be perfect. If your tent can be secured in a huge wind then it's fine. Everyone does it differently.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Thank you, Ratty! I appreciate it. I'll continue to do more research, but I will most likely bring my car there, now that you say that. Hope to meet you this year!Ratty wrote:Ixmel and husband, Welcome!! Sounds like your on the hunt for a great time. Read everything and have fun with the prep. No need to over prepare. But.... but... over preparing, over packing, over thinking everything is part of the fun! What? I didn't need all 250 gallons of water and four backup tents just in case the first three blew away in a whiteout?Ratty wrote: No need to over prepare. Don't over think it.
But seriously, no matter how much you do over think and over prepare and make checklists and check them over and over, you will get to the playa and realize you somehow managed to totally forget that one key item... but it's ok. The Playa provides. I don't mean that in the clueless sparkle pony sense of "it's 11am tuesday and we're out of water, can you help," more like the, "damn, I blew all 5 of my backup inverters before I realized my sparkle pony camp mate was trying to use her hair dryer and power grinder at the same time... oh, what's that neighbor, you have a spare inverter I can borrow, I love you. And don't worry, I may have tossed the hair dryer into a burn barrel....."

Hair dryer? The dust storms aren't enough?
