Just about everything I wear on the playa and at Regionals is stuff I found at thrift stores or odds and ends around the house...except perhaps for my hats, some of which I purchased, others gifted.

So, what are all the imperfect bodies rocking on the Playa in a little more than a week? I know I can stand to lose 10-15 pounds but I said fuck it. I'm wearing leggings and having fun. I love the way they feel & found some that are awesome. I even have a bodysuit.

I'll never be on the cover of GQ but I'm not there to impress anyone or get laid(although I wouldn't mind to). I'm there to participate & enjoy 1 week of freedom form the default world, job pressure, and escape someone else's expectations for appropriate. I'm there to camp with old friends and make new ones. I will wear tight clothes, I will be shinny & illuminated and I apologize in advance because I will probably reveal more of me than some care to see :-)

Woot woot!

Imperfection is the new perfection (did I go to far there?)

-Dave (OP), what did you come up with???

Oh no, maybe I'll fail to impress someone I don't know and don't care about. Someone I won't see ever again after the week in the desert, or for that matter, after riding past them to have fun somewhere else.

I've found the Thai Fisherman pants and baggy things like that but would like to find more fun or unique types of clothes.
So Dave, How was your Burn? Do we get a post-Playa report? What did you end up doing?

And, more importantly, WHAT WERE YOU WEARING???

(FWIW, I wear Braids, Boy shorts and Boots for everything *maybe a coat in the wee hours*)

Tyvek painter's coveralls make a great "blank canvas" for playa wear. At less than $10.00 each from Home Depot, you can spay paint them, trim them, glue stuff on them, and become your own walking canvas. You could even go naked under them and cut some holes in appropriate (or inappropriate) locations for ventilation. No sewing required. You are welcome!
Best Regards,
Leo

The answer may not be at Burning Man, but shouldn't we at least check :?:

Yes you can make your own, but sewing is a skill, and not one everyone can learn, do, havetime for etc.

My suggestions are:

Etsy: If you can find someone making something you like, chances are they can make something custom if you give them your measurements.

QVC and HSN: I know, I know crazy right? But it turns out that midwestern housewife and burner has more overlap than you'd think, especially when it comes to faux fur, and they come in very large sizes.

Ebay: Did you find the perfect faux fur coat on QVC but it's not in your size? Bam! Ebay.

Finally, my favorite suggestion and method is to take an item of clothing that fits and is comfortable and "burnerize" it. I might not be able to sew a coat from scratch, but I can definitely sew on lights, fur trim, epaulets, etc. Take cargo pants and scraps of metallic fabric and cover the pants in rough patches.

Granted, my experience is in shopping for women's clothes, but to be fair, my faux fur coats always look better on my husband. He looks like a rock star in a snake print faux fur full length coat. I look more, "Grey Gardens"
Thank you so much for this response. I have two kiddos and a full time job and other responsibilities that don't leave me time to craft the cute flattering playa costumes for a woman with a full figure. I love that you gave some viable resources and weren't dismissive or burnier than thou. Hugs!!!
