Hello, ePlaya!
Just dropping in to introduce myself. I'm Astrid x
2017 will be my first Burning Man. I remember reading about it and seeing a photo more than a decade ago, and immediately adding it to my life "to do" list, so I'm very excited to finally experience it!
I decided not to join a theme camp for my first year; I'll be catching the Burner Express in and meeting up with a friend I've rented a van with. My main concern at this point is finding a decent shade structure for the van when I arrive mid-August - damn Costco not having those carport things online!
I'm also signed up as a first year Temple Guardian, so if you're in the Temple Saturday morning and hear an Aussie accent, it might be me!

Welcome to ePlaya!
There are many from OZ who participate in the event. And thanks for volunteering!
We are good for answering specific questions formed by doing some research before asking.
There are quite a few shade threads. Covering the van windows outside with mylar space blankets and 2" wide blue masking tape will improve the sleepablity of the van. Buying a used van roof sports gear rack (reselling after) can allow you to rig shade cloths or tarps.

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hi Astrid!
Welcome to ePlaya! I'm an Aussie who went to BM a few years ago and now I live in the US so I can be closer to the playa year round
Have you made it to any of the Australia regionals? I hope to come back to go to Burning Seed at some point.
I hope to see you at the Aussie meet up Straya Day on Tuesday!

Hey Astrid,
I'm in exactly the same boat!
I have wanted to do BM for years and finally bit the bullet, Taking a career break for a year and travelling the world. Burning man being the highlight!
I'm from Melbourne as well and since ill be travelling for the year, ill be travelling light and struggling to think of how to make that work.
I got in touch with some of the regional co-coordinators who pointed me in the direction of some good networks to join for ideas and guidance.

Hi Chris,
There is a monthly meet up of Burners called Burning pub, this on the third Thursday of every month (next week’s is at Labour in Vain in Fitzroy), there will definitely be Burners at this gathering who will be making the pilgrimage to the playa next year.
Try this Melbourne FB group for more info;

Or this group based in Brisbane;
https://m.facebook.com/groups/186195938090257
I also suggest joining this group;
https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=6 ... ent_filter ..................."
I plan on going to the meet up and seeing what that's like - everyone seems so friendly I'm sure they will be happy to help out with info.
