Fire Staff Spinning

Post by Selki » Tue Feb 15, 2005 10:14 pm

Ahoy!

I myself am still a BM virgin and am planning on going this summer. I have started staff spinning and hope to spin fire staff by BM. I can only find info on poi poi and more poi, I have a friend who does that and I wanted to do something different but am having a very difficult time finding any info(other then constuction of a staff) or videos of staff spinning.

Any pointers whould be absolutly great!!!!

First check your area for fire spinning groups. If that fails see if there is a SCA group near you or try a dojo. You can also look in to baton spinning and gymnastics.
If all else fails, get a staff, pin some material to both ends and have your friends watch you. If you have no friends, tape yourself.

Now what I want to see is someone use the "fire skipping rope" from firetoys.co.uk

Seen it. It's really cool. I saw some staff instructional vids somewhere, selki. I 'll try to figure out where they were and get back to you here.

Jackpot. There's a link to the Home of Poi website, where they have a number of useful articles about fire spinning and safety, as well as some lessons for you on basic moves of staff spinning. The clips and text descriptions are not the greatest, but by far not the worst I have seen on the web. Hope this is helpful, it should at least get you started.
