Gifting: Henna (Mehndi) tattoos

Post by 5x5 » Tue May 03, 2005 2:03 pm

from a forum search, it looks this has been successful in the past. I had wanted to do this, as I tried it last summer and found it highly addictive! Just wanted to make sure it would be a wanted/appreciated gift! I'll definitely bring it for myself and campmates, but hoped to gift to strangers as well.

Also, as a novice henna artist, I am karmically bound to warn of the dangers of Black Henna. There is no such thing that occurs naturally, there is a chemical PPD added to it which can cause severe allergic reactions and scars. (There is black temporary tattoo paint, but nothing that will last as long as henna and give you the black color.) (indigo is newer on the scene, but is obviously blue.) (I'd be happy to answer any questions or direct you to someone who can if you have further Qs!)

Thanks!

I'll try to let you know!

I am with friends, they are regulars and it's my first time. they have an "unofficial" theme camp, but I don't know much more than that.

oh- and henna has a cooling effect, which is why it originated in warmer countries. perfect for the desert!

I have done henna myself quite a few times as well as had it done by a "real" henna artist on a few occasions. I have done Black henna myself and was never warned of the allergic reactions and my boyfriend did have an allergic reaction that showed up a few days after the black was gone! it wasnt too bothersome just a scabby rash that was in the exact shape of the original design. we found it humorous actually. Anyways ill probably be bringing my henna to BM and will gladly Henna till it all runs out!

the only natural henna is a brownish redish color. otherwise there are dies that could cause an reaction that could ruin your week on the playa.

since im addicted to getting real tattoos, i thought that it would be a treat to individualize others temporarily and give henna tattoos.

i will be camping at disorent and i will post in the what when and where too, so stop by.
