Solar Power Battery Charger

Post by Cabanasprings » Wed May 18, 2005 10:37 am

Can anyone suggest a good Solar Powered Battery Charger.

I am going to live in my RV this summer and plan to take it to BM this year. I am looking to keep the battery charged with a solar charger and I am not sure what would work best.

Thanks

They sell solar chargers specifically for RVs. I have a unit on top of mine that trickle charges the coach batteries while the sun is up. Contact your favorite RV shop, I bet they have a selection.

Solar Battery Charger

I don't know if there are solar powered battery chargers like you describe. I reckon you could 'google' that.

I can suggest a solar panel and inverter combination which would be ideal for an RV set-up. It's pretty reasonably priced for something you'll be able to use for years.

I bought such a system (Nomad 300) for my camp the first year for the sole sake of 'charging batteries with solar energy' since there's no place to plug in, especially in my tent. I plugged in a power strip into the inverter outlet so that I could plug in the battery charger during the day and use the inverter's storred power to run Xmas lights in camp at night.

Here's a link which I hope will be helpful. Good luck man.

Check it out. You'll see what I mean.

I love the Uni-Solar amorphous (? I think that's right) thin film solar panels. They have no glass to break, a durable top coating and nice aluminum frame. Also available in flexible panels but they cost more. One 64 watt panel, one large deep cycle battery and charge controller, and an inverter of 800watts or so and you've got lights at night if you've got sunshine in the day! Add more panels/batteries for more exotic power needs. The Starship is solely powered by these (plus a wind turbine) on-playa. I've yet to fire up the gas backup generator out there, but its kept ready in case the batteries all get drawn down and I have to start the diesel main drive up "NOW".
