Help powering 30-40 feet of LED strip on art bike

Post by m___i__k_e » Wed Jun 27, 2018 8:26 pm

This year I am constructing an art bike using 30-40 feet of 5050 RGB LED light strips on my stretch beach cruiser to resemble a scorpion. To power this, I have 2x 12V 40Ah lithium ion batteries (link to battery below). This battery has a built in BMS system so can I just hook it up straight to the LED strips? Do I need some sort of fuse or voltage regulator to protect the LED strips from getting too hot? What kind of connection is best to use to connect the LED strip to the battery? Thanks in advance for your help!

You can connect directly to the battery.

The LED strips should regulate whatever current they need. They just need to be hooked to a 12V power source to function.

Adding a switch (possibly sealed) between the battery and your lights might make it nicer to turn on and off too.
