Hi burners! Sending love from Argentina :)

Post by solidarytom » Mon Mar 04, 2019 4:27 pm

Hi everyone!
My name is Tomás (but you can all call me Tom), I´m 26 years old, live in Buenos Aires - Argentina for my whole life and this 25th of August I´ll be having my first Burning Man experience!!
I´m really really excited about the whole trip (later on we´ll be visiting Yosemite, San Francisco and Los Angeles), but mostly about Burning Man. I´ll be headed there in an RV with 5 more friends from my childhood (all first time burners). Not bragging or anything, but i´m something like the "leader" that searches for all the info, reservations, airbnb, prices, etc. (only because of the language barrier that makes it harder to somebody that doesn´t talk/write/read). The purpose of this message is, besides introducing myself, to put ourselves at your service in anything you think we could be helpful. The distance makes it harder for us to be earlier preparing stuff, but all of us are willing to participate throughout all of the Burning Man week.
Also we have lots of questions, i really don´t know where to start... i´m concerned about the tickets, it seems as if it´s harder to get one than it used to befor, right? Would love to get in contact and chat with some experienced burners!
If you are visiting Argentina, let me know! :D
Cheers,
Tom

Welcome to Eplaya! Most information for what to expect and how to prepare can be found on the Burning Man web site. Your biggest obstacle is getting tickets. If it is within your budget, the FOMO tickets, while expensive, are your best chance for obtaining tickets. The Main Sale and the OMG Sale are your main opportunity otherwise, and from my experience I would say it is at best a one in five chance to get tickets there. With the new ticket structure this year there are questions on how it will all turn out, but newcomers, and returnees that are not affiliated with a placed camp, are going to face an even harder struggle for tickets than in the past.
Tickets do become available from people that have tickets but will not be able to attend. However, those are hit or miss and typically leave you hanging until the last weeks before the event. Also it is here that fraud becomes a problem. With the planning required to come from overseas they are a risky option.

Thank you very much Grumpy Otter! You should be called Helpful Otter :)
I´m pretty concerned about those changes on the ticket sellling, although i understand the reason, i´m afraid we might not get any :(
Nevertheless, thank you very much for your response.
Tom

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
