Scanner for Rangers, ESD, etc?

Post by LittleJack » Thu Apr 11, 2019 1:14 pm

I know very little about radio frequency and technology, but think it could be interesting to listen to Ranger radio, ESD, Art Support, Gate, etc.

Are there scanners, like police scanners, that would work for those? I obviously don't want to interfere or broadcast (I know to get a MURS radio to broadcast 911), I just want to hear what's going on when something is happening.

A general search on Google will probably reveal what you need to listen into scanner broadcasts and stuff. If the police or whoever don't want you to listen in they'll used secure channels though, so whatever chatter you tune into won't carry anything particularly juicy.

Listening to others' radio ========== spectator. If you have a minute of time on the playa to be a spectator, participate instead for every minute.

Nice! 2nd reply is a "You're doing it wrong!". Good of eplaya to not disappoint.

Perhaps one way of participating is to share information with those around me, as in "Rangers just said there's a massive dust storm / rainfall coming our way". Maybe I sometimes just want to lie back in my camp and relax, and listen to something interesting. Maybe after another 10 burns I'll get the hang of this. Or maybe not. Either way, I'm pretty sure someone will leap up to tell me I'm doing it wrong.

An experienced burner like yourself has many skills to participate in departments and service camps.

The BM infrastructure internal communications silently creates the culture we have. If you want to have a real influence, get in those departments, don't create speculation on every transmission.

Personally, my job has been in high stakes projects which would globally would be viewed as good. We would never want our internal communications public. Making public everything creates deaths of a thousands arrows, or worse.

All the comms you want to snoop into are done on commercial, licensed, private channels.

The BORG rents this licensed service.

The other chatter on unlicensed spectrum - knock yourself out.

I didn't say "you're doing it wrong" I'm saying "you can do this yourself because this is a generic question."

We choose to have Rangers in our camp.

Finger on the pulse, and all that.

Little Jack, for minimal investment you could easily take it to the next level. Get your ham license and open up a whole range of frequencies. There are a lot of us in the burner community.
