you have better odds getting a visa when you are here already.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Grai, as a suggestion, make a list of the tools and post it here. I know that I have extra tools that I'd be happy to send to you and I bet many of us are in the same situation and would be happy to join in as well. It could be a start to getting back on your feet. A friend just had her car ripped open and looted a few weeks ago. She didn't have much in it, but the car wound up in the shop and the buggers got precious little, but she got violated. But tools are what lets you earn a living and that can be crushing. So, buddy, post away and lets see what can happen.

Grai. you are freaking out. It is not that difficult. and unless your Felony was an aggravated-felony you don't have to sweat it that much, I was allowed to Emigrate into the EU with a couple of Deportations on my record, Didn't even have to hire a lawyer.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Marty its great offer, but apart from my battery drills, impact driver and sonic oscillator (i loved that tool) the cost of posting is probably more than the cost of replacement, many of my tools are irreplaceable as well either because i made them from other tools or they simply dont exist anymore. discontinued glazing pliers, with breakout bars. some of my tools i dont even know wher they come from because i got given them 20 or more years ago.
I will be honest, if i could replace my alot of my stuff i would get it America because its cheaper or better over there or both.
but a set of screwdrivers? £30 to buy and $50 to post
You know how it is, I know what tools i had but to list them? its a lifetime of the tools i kept because they where useful. my glasscutters for example i bought 6 a few years back because they were discontinuing making them now i have had 2, i had 2 others for certain cuts or my circle cutter cost £50 because it was the type i liked.
or my putty knives, i can replace them at £15 each but i had 5 or i can get the standard ones but i had broken mine in, and taped the handles.
ah fuck the toolbox i bought on my way to BM last year. that's gone. the panel beating hammer i got given by my dad and the T square that i got given when i got sacked from a previous job, which was left handed.
everyday i think of a tool that was MINE and will probably just get thrown away.
I'm getting some beer

(I) a crime involving moral turpitude (other than a purely political offense) or an attempt or conspiracy to commit such a crime, or
would a conviction for theft from an employer count? i took the rap for that back when i was 22 to cover for a friend
(B) Multiple criminal convictions.-Any alien convicted of 2 or more offenses (other than purely political offenses), regardless of whether the conviction was in a single trial or whether the offenses arose from a single scheme of misconduct
got 3 convictions
also knowmad its the other way round, and its not the same for us coming there as it is for you to come here

well how about waiting, until the door gets closed?
don't get all maudlin, and then find out, most or all your tools are still there.
not telling you how to live, or what to think.
but, why be glum, any longer than necessary? There's plenty of time for that. Right now, positive thoughts, and the positive hopes we all send you, can do more to influence things, IMHO.
There's much to be said, in the ethereal realm, about positive thinking and thought, and how it can materialize and manifest......
hang on pal.

I'm not going to Argue with you Grai. But You are Wrong. You are looking at a Molehill thinking it's a Mountain. You are Tired and Fact is You Don't know ! how long you Seriously been Looking into Immigration Issues? Couple of months? year maybe? bout as long as I have been Seriously studying ways and means of My Transition. I've been Despondent, I've seen what looked like Impossibility turn out to be just Improbable, And I Didn't assume I knew how to find out the answers on my own. Reading websites, Thinking. I Turned to People With Experiences, I Experimented in my Thinking (Rediscovered the wheel) and drew on my other experiences and what I know about myself. Grai, I've been Dealing with Immigration issues from both sides of the pond since 1996, and freakouts since since fucknowswhen. And all I can say is; "Fuckit!" but not in the despondent tone of voice; More like in the "Fuckit!" it has to be done, tone of Voice.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Grai, I do this every day.
Lost a complete stained glass studio, including that handblown english streaky you can't get anymore, handmade 8 foot table, groziers, you name it.
All I can suggest is buying in bulk from someone going out of business.
Good tools turn up sometimes.
Lost all my soldering irons, except one 200 watter that turned up the other day.
Don't know if it's a working one though.
Canadian immigration is tougher, but they have different rules.
You can go through a rehabilitation process to be approved.
They are very strict about duis though.

and for custom made tools. Some of the tools I use are made by myself also. some of us could actully make something up from a drawing.

Thanks MDF.
hey GD, not that I'd ever preach, but, well, maybe try to stay optimistic. Even if this job offer is nothing.........the fact is, you got a call........and you know thousands of others, didn't. It means you have a reputation of some sort, and obviously positive, to get a call.
We're all pullin for ya! Any word from the cops as to the contents of your van?

Mmm, coffee. Morning everyone!
Grai, I hope things work out, and all will be right with your world.
New washer, yay, joy whoop. Hate that the last one only hung in there for six or seven years, and that was because I used the hell out of the warranty. Even though this one gets good reviews, I am apprehensive. I thought the dishwasher would die next, not the stupid washer. (Kenmore sucks).
