It'd be easy enough to make it a double wall... extend the top pole through the center of the bottom, and run a larger version above it. Excellent for hot weather use (we were talking about insulation of tents elsewhere).
Who knows, it might be the next development to the ubiquitous playa dome. Were I rich I might even plunk down for one. What are the downsides??

Your idea of extending the center pole would be an excellent way of adding a shaded layer (or two) above the tent.
