Rest In Peace to animator Arthur Rankin Jr. (of Rankin Bass fame), who died earlier this week. And to actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died earlier today.

RIP Ernie James. He was my next-door neighbor growing up and one of the few people I can say I have known all of my life. For any of you who have driven over the Carquinez Bridge on I-80 connecting Sacramento to San Francisco (and what Northern Californian hasn't?), Ernie designed it. He landed on Utah Beach on D-Day and helped liberate the concentration camps at Nordhausen and Dora-Mittenbau. He lectured on the Holocaust (he was a Catholic) and his story can be seen at the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. in video form. He was a truly remarkable man. I will be making my way to Santa Rosa on Friday when they lay him to rest. Sleep well my friend.
I grew up watching the movies she made as a child. As an adult, she also had a pretty distinguished diplomatic career in the United Nations. Good on her, and thanks for the memories.
I remember having one of my first upside down world sensations when I was 5 or 6, watching a Shirley Temple movie, and my mother told me that she was the same age as Shirley Temple.
”On second thought, Let’s not go to Camelot. It’s a silly place.”
Roll on through, Tumbleweed.
Shirley Temple, well her movies and character, got me through some horrific childhood traumas, the songs, the happiness, the good.
dang, I usually don't care that much........
At 10:37 tonight, our beloved Golden retriever passed away in my arms, one day after his 13th birthday. I actually heard his last heartbeat. It was one of the most intense feelings I have experienced....
thankfully he went pretty fast. He stopped eating Thursday, and by Friday he could no longer walk.
I'm just sitting here kind of stunned about the speed in which he went. Less than a week ago, he was fine. Granted he was old, but he still was doing fine. I was pretty sure he wasn't going to make it to his 14th birthday, but I had no idea he was going to go so fast.
We were actually going to put him down tomorrow, and I think he knew this.
