Ah... Tom Servo, the Iowegian. Are you also trying to tell us that you sell Fischer Price toys, the new "Sit ' n Spin'?

BTW, buddy, will you make INTERFUSE this year, or do I have to go to the Iowa burn?

Thanks Fishy. I feel that the majority of the frequent flyers on this board are genuine and trustworthy. I have always been a really private person, and have been hesitant to join in conversations, or interact with "strangers" online. But after reading and following along on these threads, and receiving the friendly encouragement and advice, I decided it was time to jump on in. So putting my face out there was sort of a big step, but a liberating one... :) No regrets!

BIG playa-size ( that BEATS McD's 'supersize' by at least a factor of a hundred) welcome to Sadie, and gatt, and Dr. Helix. Good photos, too,btw....full of the hope and charm that a trip to the playa will only fill with more hope and charm. You folks are going to be irresistible when you get back to the default.

And Savannah knows what she's talking about, Sadie. You have very nice blue eyes.

And Sadie, just remember you're going on vacation, and leave the expectations there. Some people love it, some hate it, and you never know where you're going to fall on that spectrum. Just be open to new experiences and you should have a great time!

Thanks Eric. I am going in with eyes wide open. The only thing I expect is adventure. Well, and some dust. Oh, and heat, and cold, and wind.... (You are also on my list of people I hope to meet)! I have no doubt that this thing isn't for everyone, but I have a good (and honestly a little anxious) feeling about the experience that awaits... I won't know till I try. I think a tiny bit of trepidation will keep me on my toes and make me damn sure my ducks are all lined up.

sadie, if you find yourself wandering by Center Camp in the mid-afternoon, do swing by Lamplighters. I'll pour you a drink and if you want, we'll put you in a funny robe and put you to work :)

That's the spirit!

The dust is unavoidable. Drink lots of water before, during, and after the event to stay hydrated. Clothing choices can handle the heat and cold. The wind in your hair will be a turn-on. Have no expectations, and you'll be rewarded beyond your wildest imagination.

On the way there, too...stop and smell the roses. I did for a couple of days the previous two years, both before and after the event. I went up to Denio Junction and Virgin Valley and actually found some precious opals. I'm rapidly becoming acquainted with the history and lore and tall tales of the area, and it's all new, exciting, and ultra-enjoyable not knowing what new and different adventures await around the next bend in the road.

Bon voyage!

I would love to explore that part of the country. I am looking at a loooong drive from a to b, and don't know how much time to spare I will have. In a perfect world, I can make the 1500 mile trip in two days, but I am traveling alone and the van didn't come with auto pilot...so three days may be more realistic. I'll have a plan, but I know enough to stay flexible when the unexpected arises. Getting there in one piece is the goal, and whatever happens next is yet to be seen.

Indeed three days is more realistic. I travel 1791 miles by vehicle one way to get to BRC. I've only made it out of Nebraska ONCE on the first day heading towards BRC. When your eyes start to bug out and your body is crying out for sleep... that's when I give in.

I am driving solo from central Mississippi (2,000+ miles) and I am planning on a conservative four day drive most days.

My last day may be a bit longish via overnighting in Las Vegas or a bit shorter via overnighting in Tonapah.
