First time burner from Canada :D

Post by paulthewookie » Wed Mar 05, 2014 12:15 pm

Hi All!

I'm a first time burner from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I've been wanting to make my way to the burn for almost a decade now. I'm turning 40 this year and for each month of the year I've been trying to do something new and exciting. I think that burning man will fit perfectly into that. I wasn't planning on coming this year because my partner and I have a 8 year old daughter and no one to watch her for that long but the other day my partner grabbed me and just said "You need to go. It's your year!". She is so much awesome! So I'm on a scouting mission and hopefully we can both go next year :D

Unfortunately that conversation happened after the individual tickets were on sale but I'm going to prepare like I'm going and do my best to get a ticket through my local community, the online community or STEP.

I'm pretty excited! Hope to see you all out on the playa!

Paul

Bring the wife and daughter THIS year. Kids under 12 get in free, last I looked.

He never said anything about having a wife.

Paulthewookie, two years ago I ran the Calgary Marathon. One of the denizens of these forums, Remi, got together with me after the race and we helped support the local bar economy in spades. You might want to look him up. He's a good guy and knows all there is to know about TTITD.

Here's a great way to connect to Alberta Burners if you don't already:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/170599206330089/

It's the Alberta Buners FB page. They are having "Freezer Burn" in June and it's a great regional event. How do I know this? I married a woman from Calgary I met at the Burn. See you out there!

Cool! I've been meeting a bunch of people in the Calgary Burner community lately, some of them are long standing veterans too. I'll see if I can look him up! Thanks!

Welcome to eplaya paulthewookie, your story sounds a lot like my own. I've been wanting ti get to bm since i found out about it in 2001. But being in halifax the past few years made it that much harder to drive it. 1 1/2 years ago we moved to winnipeg and i told myself i was going to make it last year because i was turning 30 but a job loss cut my plans down. This year is different though. I got a ticket and have started planning. My fiancee was planning to come too but shes in medical school third year and aparently thwy start a week early ( august 25th :-( ) but like your partner she said no i still need to do this. so bringing my best friend since grade 10 instead. We plan on making our way west befor south and are spending a couple days in calgary first.

That awesome MonkeyStyle! We do have similar stories. I'm excited for you that you have a ticket and are making it happen after waiting so long! That's cool you're coming through Calgary on your way. It's a fun place!
