Belated Birthday wishes, Trillo. Morning Barflys. Beautiful day here and a weekend ahead with a Burnal Equinox tomorrow night and tennis on Sunday morning. Finally over a few weeks of coughing! What a drag that was. Thought it would never end.
Cheers, kiddies

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Thanks for all the birthday wishes, guys!
And now today's Friday, and around here it's nice and sunny to boot! I've only got a tiny bit of tinkering left on the part render I was working on, then later I should be able to get a chance to work on redesigning the models for the rest of my ziggurat parts (the real world ziggurat and its parts stay the same, but I'm making the 3D models look more realistic). I've also got a bunch of research and reading to do for some other project I'm working on, but that's a lot less fun.
Happy Friday!

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Indeed! Happy Friday to you and everyone else!
This weekend the menu includes my award-winning Cajun gumbo (Sat. lunch), baked orange roughy (Sat. dinner), and my kung pao chicken (Sunday dinner), made with celery, carrots, peanuts, cashews, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, of course chicken, and kung pao sauce that I get from the local Chinese market along with dumplings of various types. I make my own dumpling dip sauce with rice vinegar, soy sauce, and fresh chives that's as good as what I get in a restaurant.
I foresee barbecue next week at the granddaddy of GREAT barbecue - Bates City BBQ just off I-70 in the city of the same name. It's an old railroad town just outside of Kansas City. Believe it or not, there are Burlington-Northern Santa Fe railroad trains that STOP on the mainline track just a hundred feet away, and the crew jumps out to go get BBQ to go. Their crispy fries are to die for, and the beef brisket sandwiches are sublime. On weekends, I'll drive up there occasionally wearing my Bates City BBQ t-shirt that says on the front "Got ribs?" and pick up a couple of slabs to share with friends in Columbia as we partake of ribs, hot wings, football, and good times.
No other city in the US tailgates like Kansas City. Guaranteed. Even John Madden, when he was with the Oakland Raiders, used to enjoy Kansas City Chiefs games for the ribs he'd get. That continued in his post career with CBS, where he made the same observation, that "nobody tailgates better than Kansas City".
I live in a near-nirvana of cuisine.

Hi YG. Another beautiful day here by the Bay. Son coming by for brekie. Making him a feast of Canadian Bacon and lightly scrambeled eggs with shredded pepper jack cheese and finely chopped raw onions. Multigrain toast and some fresh strawberry preserves made by Little Flower's sister. I'll go back on the diet tomorrow.
Resting up for the Burnal Equinox with a beautiful lady friend (and camp mate) this evening. Not too shabby for an old guy!
Have a great day, one and all

Morning gentlemen. (((Yggy,Marty))). Hug sandwich! It is beautiful out here in the west today.
Going to work around the house today. Chores and random art...
Most likely head on down to The Morris today. It's their soft grand opening and the Nada Dada Art Experience all weekend.
Salud!

Hi Marty! that breakkie sounds great, well except the pepper jack (allergic to hot peppers)...........and have fun at Equinox!!
I'll be seein ya in about a week!
Hi 420!! Say hi to everyone for me! That tour we took at the Morris was great!
Dang I'm sore today, getting old I guess. I mounted balanced and installed 6 tires on my one ton yesterday, and throwing those wheels around beat me up a little.
dang.
But, static balanced each rim, marking heavy and light sides, then matched them with the heavy mark on each tire (factory marks either heavy or light spot on new tires), with the rim........that static balancing made for much less weight when I balanced, plus I feel, a smoother ride.
yay, for doing it the "old fashioned, manual, analog" way.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Yggy,
Hope you're feeling better soon. Believe me, I know the feeling of 'getting older'. When I moved a couple of years back, I moved into an apartment all by myself, bit by bit...it damn near killed me. Figures, though...nobody helps a geologist move, because we have a profusion of books and a huge collection of rocks.
Think about the bright side, though. I am as of right now......Midwest Burners' regional event tickets went on sale at noon today. That's Midwest Burners - http://www.midwestburners.com/ . $30.00 each for four days and three nights of precom. The event name? INTERFUSE. And, as of now, the fuse is lit. Here we go again.
Lucky 420, I know about the chores. I FINISHED the housecleaning yesterday, and I STILL have to do the grocery shopping. Have a good time with the art.
A beautiful companion, magic marty? Bless you both, and enjoy each others' company.
Coffee, get dressed, and out the door in a few.
Adios until later, compadres!

wow, must be getting spring........not much action in here.
Hey Rhino!
My cousin found a nice formation of Mariposite on his mining property....very pretty. I'm hoping to get up there.
he says it has very little pyrite in it, which for wall rock is good, in that it will not bleed rust as it weathers.

Well Done, MDF. congratulations on continuing fun.
Sprang forward as well. Now I don't have to subtract an hour from the clocks I neglected in the Fall Back. (mostly digital doo dahs, although some adjust on their own. The ones with hands, I'll attend to shortly.)
coffee for sure, and I think some breakfast, and of course fun on wheels by all means.

Good morning! Yes, resetting clocks here too. This must be the stupidest thing we do as a society. So much wasted work; so very much confusion from the changes. When I drove trucks and had delivery appointments, the changes caused no end of mixups.
Other than that I'm fine!
Just wondering what to do with the huge green greatcoat I bought at the flea market yesterday. It kind'a goes with my marching band uniform jacket, but lacks decorations.
Oh.... I can convey greetings from CaptainGoddammit! Just talked with Miss Charlie and him on the telephone.

Good Morning All !
Congratulations MDF...
Yesterday was our Burnal Equinox
Yes, I was there early morning ;but really missed Paula Jayne giving orders her way
and although I brought a friend to help me ; she got "shaky" and so we went home before the event got started
some kind of lesson there I think
back to going it alone

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Hello all, spent all day in the Black rock desert area. We first stopped at the friends of blackrock store in Gerlach, had a nice visit with the staff. Then traveled up Soldier Meadows road for about 20 miles and did some hiking. Weather was wonderful, no wind or dust anywhere. The view of the playa and black rock point was beautiful. The playa had some wet areas. Then we finished our adventure with a nice dinner at Brunos back in Gerlach.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
From what the staff at Friends of Black Rock said, Gerlach area got about 1 inch of rain last week. We didn't go on the playa yesterday, but could see wet areas. The small playa between Empire and Gerlach had water on it. Also lots of water on the Smoke Creek desert, the playa west of Gerlach. We didn't see any cars out on any of the playas.

Hi fernley1.
sounds like a fun day! If you get over as far as Majuba peak, there is some galena to be found, even some crystalline samples, petrified wood (can be radioactive), and columnar basalt.

Thanks for the tip Ygmir. Every time we go out that way, we always end up on the other side of I-80, exploring the Humbolt range. Rochester Canyon is one of our favorite hiking area. Another is Fossil Hill on the other side of the range. Seven Troughs areas also is a favorite Mountain to explore, might go there next weekend. Weather is supposed to be nice, 70 degrees on Sunday.

Nowhere near the optimal levels of wetness, unfortunately... sounds like a nice excursion though.
My fingers are crossed for a fun and productive Monday. Not a whole lot on the list of things to do today, which I'm hoping will mean I'll get plenty of time to tinker around with art and camp planning. I discovered a few design flaws in the 3D models of the parts I'd made in Cinema 4D last week. The part designs themselves are rock solid, but the way I built the 3D models in the software have a few tiny glitches in the geometry. Fortunately it's very minor (under 20 out of 3600 or so polygons in each part), but each issue in each of the parts needs to be fixed manually. The devil's in the details, I tell ya!

Rochester canyon south of, has demortierite (sp?), if you go over, to American canyon, and go up the northern forks, you'll run into ammonites and even an ichthyosaur.fernley1 wrote:Thanks for the tip Ygmir. Stop in Rosebud canyon, on the way to 7 troughs, for some green matrix geode like rocks and formations.

Close, yggy....and I have to give you partial credit for trying. It's 'dumortierite'. Other than that minor miscue, well done. You get an "A".ygmir wrote:Rochester canyon south of, has demortierite (sp?), if you go over, to American canyon, and go up the northern forks, you'll run into ammonites and even an ichthyosaur.fernley1 wrote:Thanks for the tip Ygmir.
