It's a material called Wonderflex. It's essentially a type of mold-able plastic which become malleable (and more importantly self adhesive) when you heat it. Once it cools it retains it's shape (which can be done multiple times). It's pretty incredible and not terrible expensive ($75 for a massive sheet of it). It's also fairly light weight so it won't be problematic to wear it around or do the typically hilarious things you do out on the playa.

Last year I made a crazy fiber optic and LED mohawk, but it would not stay put on my head (it was mounted to a leather motorcycle beanie that just wasn't stiff enough to hold it very well). So, here we are with a helmet I'm working on to support this year's efforts in the field of extravagent blinky headwear.

This is something I put together myself. It's kinda like a heavy weight champion belt.... Not intentionally though. I wore it to a festival here a few months ago and it held up awesomely... No MOOP!!! It also doubled up as my torch for me to find my way to my camp site. I also got a lot of WOW comment by people I passed which made me very happy.

Picked up my playa coat and added an extra button, also reinforced the existing one. Now to figure out lighting.

UD, I don't know if you've ever been to the physical Douglas and Sturgess in SF, but the website represents them perfectly. Just slightly out of date, but lots of cool stuff if you dig. I haven't been for ages, but last time I was there it took some hunting because their only sign was warped black vinyl letters on their dark grey door.Ugly Dougly wrote:Here:

What pattern are you using for the cowl? I have two of my daughters that want one similar.

Wow ... that what easy! Only 6 hours to finish this cuff!?! Wondering how long it will take to finish the rest of the outfit?

BTW ... the hand in the photo is the hand of the creator (I do, of course, refer to the creator of the cuff and not that oft referred to figment ...). Just thought that I ought to clarify that I am not sewer in the family - but I am certainly benefiting from her talents.unjonharley wrote:LIKElucky420 wrote:smilemore wrote:Wow ... that what easy! Also on the sewing table: multiple jackets, some cool pants and a couple of top hats from scratch.
Better restock the wine shelf!
Cheers and thanks for the compliments.

Re: Playawear Work In Progress 2014
Made this hood last night in a couple hours for the cold playa nights. $4 faux fur thrift shop steal with an old costume smoking jacket up cycled for the cause. I call it my demon hood
to be worn when creating mischief, chaos and generally behaving badly. Many more to follow.
I plan on gifting a bunch of these to people since real "animal" hoods run around $100-200 and will prob get tarnished by the dust.
