FUCK. My grand-nephew was run over today and killed, he was five years old. Heartbreaking.

A few years back a family member was killed in a tragic accident and I posted here about it. His mother has published a book on her experience in dealing with this that I thought might be of interest and possibly inspiration to anyone who has experienced a similar tragedy in their lives. She is an amazing woman in many ways, more amazing than she knows, I think. She isn't a professional writer, she's a mom, she works hard and now owns her own business. I wake up this a.m. to an inch and a half of solid ICE on the ground. We're scheduled for up to 8 inches of drifting snow to go on top of THAT today! The state DOT information map shows that 90% of the state has roads covered and is advising everyone to stay the hell home.

Double-fuck with a twist...

Holy shit, the fucking conclusions some people jump to are fucking ludicrous. How about when someone doesn't actually know what's going on with a situation they just say "I don't really know" rather than read a couple disconnected stories, cherry pick some quotes out of context, and just make up their own conclusions and stories. Urgh, I hate idle gossip about friends.

And then in local news, holy fucking shit there's a big fire less than a mile from me. It's only a couple blocks from our old place, an entire new building construction site is going up in flames. Reported just before 5 and immediately went to 2 fucking alarms. Within the hour, it fucking jumped to 5 alarms. And, holy fuck, as I've been typing this, another wave of sirens screaming by and it's been upgraded to 6 alarms. We've got high winds today, plus the site's wrapped in scaffolding, which is making this fucker tough to fight. There are scattered reports that it's jumped to an adjacent building, as well as a partial collapse. Fucking crazy shit!

I'm fucking happy to report that despite peaking at 6 alarms, there appear to have been no fatalities or serious injuries. The fire is about 60% contained (and the smoke's gone from dark black to much lighter), and primarily was on a job construction site, and started at the end of the day/shift. The nearby building that caught fire's been put out, and things appear to be headed in the right direction. Here's the view from my doorstep...



Complete with charred ember chunks, which have been falling all over the place. Fun times.

Thanks Rhino. If it was just money it would hurt, and hurt bad. But we took into our org a bunch of employees for this property who might either lose their jobs or get a big reduction in pay if we lost this.

I offered to take a lot of the responsibility for these negotiations from another one of our employees. The partner has been very obnoxious and unprofessional towards him. I'm part of the ownership and we put ourselves into this position. It not fair to subject an employee to the continued abuse of the partner. Meanwhile I'm trying to protect my 72 year old father as well. He shouldn't have to worry about this bullshit.

So it's all coalescing at once in a giant ball of fear, responsibility and the knowledge that the partner over which I'm so upset has no loyalty except to his wallet.

I had four beers at the local Irish bar where the bartenders know how to handle mopy patrons. No chatter, bring the beer. Upon reflection, part of my poor reaction might be daylight savings. I have noticed in the past, that I don't fare well to the sudden change. I prefer to wake when it's light out.
