I'm looking at this tent for our first Burning Man. We will be going as part of a larger camp.
I'm wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with this specific tent?
We have a F250 that is old and beat up, so the rubbung on the paint, etc. isn't a concern.
I expect to have to modify the vents and zippers in order to provide additional protection from the playa and we are going to look at a shade structure to put over the entire vehicle as well.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Kodiak makes quality tents. Any particular reason that you're thinking of the truck tent and not say the 10x10: http://www.competitiveedgeproducts.com/ ... px?ID=1558
You wind up with more space, and you would need less clearance with the shade structure.

Re: Kodiak Truck Bed Tent
ground tent is more versatile and way more comfortable than a truck bed tent. zodiac makes a great canvas tent that holds up through all playa conditions... have been using one for years, dust proof to the extent that the only playa that gets into a zodiac is what you bring in on clothes and shoes. or if you happen to leave a vent unzipped.

Thinking about it from a foot print perspective. Being able to conserve space by having the tent and truck combined was a major consideration. Since we will be a part of a larger camp, we are going at it with the idea that we will have space in the camp to relax. We will also be able to place our items under the truck in totes to keep them in shade and out of the way, which would effectively make our personal foot print about the side of the truck (plus shade structure).
Really I'm looking for the reviews on how it will stand up to the playa. It sounds like it will be just fine from everything I've been able to read thus far.

Depending on the camp, you may have more space than you think. Adding a 10x10 footprint probably won't kill the layout. In terms of stability, you should be fine though. Their canvas, stitching and poles are strong.

For my first time at the burn I bought a used camper shell from Craigslist for about $100 to fit on my GMC 1500. It needed some paint and some insulation to close the gaps, but it worked great, and it's still on my truck today.
I have my little travel trailer now, but I still host guests (freeloaders) on a futon mattress in there. Having a solid structure to sleep in is really awesome. No loud flapping in the wind or loose buckles to worry about!
Just something to think about...Good Luck!

Can you remove or collapse that rear awning so it's not a wind scoop?
Playa winds are regularly 25 mph, often 45 mph, can be 75 mph, and the record is 110 mph.
Best guess: park with your nose facing NE, as the worst blows usually come from the NE.
Unfortunately, the usual prevailing wind is typically from the SW.
(to be more technical, those are more like ENE and WSW, but you get the idea)
