Two nudists walk into a Google bus...

neither of the naked people had the "courtesy towels" that are mandatory in San Francisco for nudists if they are going to sit on a public seat.

A bright "ball of fire" was spotted above New Brunswick and Nova Scotia early Tuesday morning. Steve Betts of Halifax said on Twitter he was driving towards the airport at 5:07 a.m. when he spotted "something fall out of the sky in red flames." "Whatever it was left a trail of red flame then turned green and disappeared. I'm guessing it wasn't a plane but maybe a meteorite?" he wrote.

The snakes that St. Patrick targeted were largely the women who he said were heretics. Women were declared heretics if they practised things Patrick declared as witchcraft, mainly things like healing. Astoundingly, this included midwives. The worst were women who practised anything to do with the absolutely dreaded mathematics; not only was it mathematics not controlled by the church, but women doing mathematics!!! A number of inquisition like progressions were made around to the villages, apparently with much advance warning allowing many if not most to escape; this is thought to be intentional. The object seemed to clearly be to drive them off, not catch them, but with fatal consequences to make examples of those who didn't flee. It is speculated that this was so the whole pagan family would flee and be gone, with others fleeing with them, hence even more pagans are rid from Ireland. They had to take what they could and flee to England by boat (hence "into the sea"). The women who didn't escape were rounded up and taken care of, often in a "less refined" variation of drawn & quartered, with some burnings.

It is believed they came to be referred to as The Snakes so they could be referred to but not naming the evil they practiced, and the snake was a common symbol for some Irish pagans. The scholarly works seemed to think that St. Patrick's campaign against "heretics" was not motivated by the early councils on orthodoxy, but simply as a practical way to rid Ireland of pagan practices, which he viewed a threat to the church.

Ten years ago one could easily find the documentation of the above. Less so in summary, but scholarly documentation was search-able. It doesn't turn up now. How did that change? It appears to be a very successful effort by someone. Ironically, some evidence remains, even on catholic sites, including: "Reformers engaged in their own ruthless inquisitions" against Catholics, but the text on the Catholics' Inquisitions against non-Catholics is missing.

Last night, I tripped and fell while walking a dinner plate to the kitchen sink. The glass plate shattered and sliced my hand, pretty ugly. So I went to the Dr today to see about an antibiotic. The nurse asked me - Do you have suicidal thoughts? (its on a checklist).

You know, it may be possible to kill yourself on purpose with a dinner plate - but I don't think its likely....
Do you?
Still shaking my head at that....

There's a Stephen King novel whose climax hinges on something very similar. To avoid spoilers I won't give the title but I will say it's probably not one of his top ten. The man's got a weird mind.
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

After years of lobbying by the UCI, the International Olympic Committee has added cycling to the Winter Olympics program. The chosen discipline is not cyclo-cross, however, but fat biking.

"According to the Olympic Charter, winter sports are those that take place on snow or ice," explained IOC president Thomas Bach. "Although cyclo-cross races do sometimes happen in wintry conditions, they usually don't. Fat biking, on the other hand, is all about riding in the snow, so it's a no-brainer for including in the next Winter Games in South Korea."

UCI president Brian Cookson was quick to applaud the IOC's decision. "This is a great moment for cycling, and fat biking in particular. It's no coincidence that the IOC has chosen to include the fastest-growing segment of the bike industry in the Olympics, just as they did in 1996 with the inclusion of cross-country mountain biking. They want to be seen as cutting-edge in order to appeal to the youth demographic that advertisers crave."

The fat bike competition for men and women will require little extra infrastructure, since the plan is to build the competition track in conjunction with the Nordic skiing facilities. Details such as race distances, qualification process, etc. are yet to be determined, however, the UCI says that there is no truth to the rumours that a biathlon version is also under consideration. "We won't be letting mountain bikers near guns anytime soon," was an off-the-record comment from a UCI staffer.
