Last year, I talked to a couple different camps about how they got all their gear out there, and several of them had paid to have a giant shipping container trucked out there and dropped at their placement, then picked up at the end of the event and driven back. It sounded like a great way to bring a lot of equipment there and back, and apparently several camps all pitched in together to share a container, which was also useful for shade, kitchen, costume-changing area, etc. once it was unloaded.
Does anyone have information about what companies in the Bay Area offer this service specifically to the burner community? I found this site: http://eventproductions.com/burning-man-shipping.html, and I'd like to know what else is out there.

Though some camps may have had shipping containers hauled in from home. However, I think they may have been referring to this service.

I saw that too, and we are considering it, although it's not clear from the website whether or not the service is still available at this point. I know that in at least one case, they had packed their gear into a trailer in Alameda, and it was going to be sent back there, which I'm guessing was through Event Productions.BBadger wrote:Though some camps may have had shipping containers hauled in from home. I'm moving this to Transportation, since that's a better fit.
No, we do not provide a shipping container services directory, either on the Burning Man main site or on ePlaya. And we're not really a Burning Yelp either. If you're an organizer of a registered theme camp, it would serve you well to jump on the annual Theme Camp Forum (this year's is coming up on Saturday), as well as to read the information in the placement team's mailing list (outside service providers are covered a couple times through each season). Failing that, you may want to reach out to the Outside Services department. Remember, you'll need to ensure that the company you contract with has both worked with Burning Man's Outside Services team to obtain the necessary credentials, and also with the BLM to obtain the necessary special events permit and pays the necessary fees (since their business operations touch BLM lands, they'd be on the hook for a percentage of all revenues).

Thanks for the guidance. I hadn't thought about the permitting issues, but now that you've mentioned it, I appreciate the need to make sure that the vendor is properly credentialed through Outside Services.
I apologize if my request for information was not in keeping with the spirit of ePlaya. It seems that the concern was that rather than asking for advice about how to do something, I was asking for recommendations of service providers to assist me. Am I correct in understanding the issue? If I've transgressed, I'd like to make sure that I don't do so again. In any event, I'm grateful for the assistance you gave.
