Best bbq or stove
Hey I have some nice camping stoves but they just use one pot at a time.
I don't have a portable bbq or multi-burner stove, anyone have any suggestions?
I was checking out some out at homeless de put, but was wondering if anyone had some excellent ideas.
I'm sure you do, so let's hear them!

Re: Best bbq or stove
You have stoves. (plural)
You can convert them into a 2 or 3 burner stove with an oven.
Post pics and we'll get started!!!
This is Yg's one burner stove, oven, smoker, water heater, griddle............

does having a lid or windscreen make a huge difference? That's one thing I was slightly hesitant about with my camp stove is that it's small and I can't use it as a grill.

How many people are you cooking for? I use this for me and me alone:

I can grill my steaks for breakfast and the chicken for the M&G. I can heat up my chili for the cookoff. I can add a griddle for the pancake porkout and pop this sucker on to bake cinnamon rolls.

It will be mostly for me, but I'm sure i will be sharing with at least 2 or 3 people. Also, how many gallons of propane should be enough?

Re: Best bbq or stove
Depends on how often you are cooking. I bring 4 of the small canisters and I've never used more than three.
I cook once a day in the morning and then I heat up roughly 2 gallons of chili on Monday and cook 5 pounds of chicken on Wednesday. Saturday morning is pancakes and bacon, and when I've switched out in the middle, someone else always seems to provide.
But my meals are simple. Either grilled steak or cinnamon buns/biscuits/pecan buns.

I love small stoves. I think I don't have the room for a regular two burner... then I bring three or four little ones. DOH!
windy conditions mean for me usually no cooking. I did find a small screen for the butane stove that I'll try this year.
butane.

I like an alcohol stove for boiling water, and just for the fact that they are quiet too. That last cup of tea at night when it is quiet (what? could happen!) I have a couple brass trangia stoves.
This one you can put the pot right on top of the burner, no parts, just one piece.

and my favorite little kit:

I'm trying out a new bbq fuel this year too. Charcoal and ashes were kind of a mess last year, though you can't beat the taste. I found these for a small weber kettle. Easy on the trash pack out.

I like the cast iron stoves

Easy to clean, indestructible and usually way more BTUs than the smaller stoves that use disposable butane canisters, but possibly overkill if you're just cooking for you and a couple others...
But building your own multi-stove out of existing one-burners is an awesome suggestion as well.

Vulture Chow, I use the same stove. Works well. It has a griddle that I use for things like Texas Toast and browning bread, hamburger buns, and making the ultimate playa comfort food.....grilled cheese sandwiches.
I also use a Brinkmann water smoker for barbecue on playa. It also grills steaks to perfection.

Check out Academy. Here they have a large selection of stoves, from the one burner, to four burner (talking heat sources not participants), and many variations.
I noticed that there is a new Coleman with one big burner - per usual - and a side burner with much finer flame control - for coffee or simmering. Tempting!

I'm a big fan of the Camp Chef 2 or 3 burner stoves - Costco will usually have them this time of year for between $100-$150.

Add the flat top steel griddle an you're ready to cook in mass quantities - great for pancakes, eggs, quesadillas, etc.

The pizza oven is another fun accessory. Fresh pizza on the playa is always a popular item

I've always just brought a regular home backyard style BBQ grill.
It rocks! They don't really weigh that much.

I use pretty much an identical stove and cook for 2 on it just fine. More than 2 would be a stretch.

How tight for space are you?
If you have the room, I would recommend buying a two or three burner propane camp stove and feeding it with a 20 lbs tank. I don't think you could possibly burn through 20 pounds of propane in a week, and it would be a lot cheaper than going through a half dozen disposable cylinder. You can also feed a propane light if you want.
This is one area where bigger is better. Except for transporting and storing.
Those big, heavy cast iron stoves are great! Their burners are impressive and they stoves are sturdy enough to handle a heavy pot. If you are going to cook a lot and return to Burning Man often it might be worth it.
A small, lightweight propane stove (Coleman) can serve quite well. You need something to set the stove on and you need to consider the stability of the entire thing. If you are frying an egg it doesn't need to be that strong, but if you want to boil a large pot of water for washing then it needs to be a little more sound. If you intend to stir a giant pot of chili then I would want it really secure.
A windscreen can be essential. If you have one of those massive cast iron stoves then it isn't very important, as they can overcome just about anything. But the wimpy little stoves can have all their heat output carried away by even a light breeze.

Oh yeah! I just bought one of these to use instead of hauling the bigger Camp Chef stove with legs and the BBQ. Perfect for the times you don't want to be stuck inside the hot RV cooking.VultureChow wrote:How many people are you cooking for? I use this for me and me alone:

Just stumbled onto this thread. I always bring a two burner and end up eating cold beans out of a can. Anyway, great selection of cooking gear displayed here. You folks must do up some impressive eats. Wow, I will have to write down some of these camp names and hunt you down on the playa come suppertime....to check out the stoves..... The pictures here, I am sure, do not do them justice.

I always dig out the Coleman two burner white-gas stove around this time and try to cook something good that I'll bring to the playa. Year before last it was some turkey-jalapeno burgers...amazing. Last year it was a thick ribeye steak in a cast iron pan, with sauteed mushrooms, Vidalia onions, and a cabernet reduction.

these two things, flame disk and grilliput grill with fire bowl, worked together in my test camping trip with My Dear Friend. This means I have room in my car for more speakers, and I can do a deep playa bbq off the back of my trike. (maybe)
I'd make sure it isn't in direct contact with the ground somehow.

I even establish a 'drip zone' around my smoker so that even ashes don't hit the ground, by using concrete landscape blocks. With LNT, I take the concrete home, and don't even leave an ash.

Vulture Chow,
How do you like that folding oven?
I bought one last year and haven't used it yet. Any hints/suggestions?
