Our local news here in Reno was talking about the tornadoes in California today.
Be careful out there.

well, we're having a good spring storm, tornadoes in the valley and even low foothills, snow in the mountains, and some more (they say) on the way.

starting to think about our Hof party.......mid to late June? Anyone coming, chime in with dates that work and don't, we can try to make it work for the most folks that way.
Even July is ok.

Sorry to hear about the stressfulness.

I wanted to post on the one hundredth page of the bar, and saying yes to a hof-do ties in nicely. June was nice last year.

Wish I could make it to the Hof, but it's hard enough as it is trying to deal with construction season accelerating this year. The geology work is really hot and heavy right now. Be back soonest.

I feel like crap. I hope I don't have a persistent infection... I'd hate to have taken a course of antibiotics, and not have it work.
And I don't know if I should try to go to the doctor tomorrow, or hope I'm okay for the weekend...

Hi Rhino! well, if you could make it, you'd be most welcome! and, camp on the Sierra Nevada fault block, next to an andesite? intrusion at the bordering a pyroclastic mud flow, with glacial striations and even a "radical"...........I know, I know....

Hey BB!! You ought to grab AntiM and head out here for a visit!! Meet MyLarry on a trip to CA, park his rig a few days at my place and we'll head up!

Looks like the weekend here will be perfect riding weather... Saturday, we're having our annual run and Celebration of Appreciation for Viet Nam Vets, and there may be 50 or more bikes. We'll cruise the valley and have an escort the whole way, riding right through red lights and stop signs. Flag line and Honor Guard... these are always fun and emotional at the same time.

Fishy, I hope you're feeling better soon... those persistent low-grade infections can really drain a person! Hang in there, we're rooting for you!

Sadie, I'm glad the line was fixed without incident... that could have been disastrous!

Happy Friday to all!!! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Yggy, just knowing I'd be welcome at the Hof makes my day. Thanks, buddy. I know you're living in a geological curiosity world of wonders. I feel my heart go pitter-patter with happiness and glee every time I go out west to see and bang on the rocks.

Things here have slowed for a minute, anyway....it's Friday..."casual day"..I can wear jeans to work.

We're in the middle of semi-crisis management here. I'm the responsible party on 9 one-call tickets next week. Four are cleared. Five to go. I'll be calling around a lot. PLUS, our section had a utility strike in St. Louis, and I'm point man on the damage investigation. We've already got our parties together and figured out that the contract locating service that works for one-call either ignored the tickets or falsified them. That means that I may have to give the Attorney General's office a call to set up a meeting. Prosecution is a strong possibility for the locating service.

I went out and spent half a day with a maintenance supervisor on Wednesday, and he showed me a pinnacle of rock on a newly constructed road that has a tension crack at the top of the slope. Failure of the rock face is imminent, and I'm writing the report today. We're going to use a rock dike next to the highway to prevent a big 20-ton boulder from rolling out into the lane. Talk about serendipity....I'd just seen where they were doing similar things in Italy on a big rock slope to protect high voltage transmission towers below some cliffs. First time we've ever done it, and it's MY adaptation of the technology.

I'm also working on a follow-up for a realigned design plan. The local citizenry opposed closing the bridge that needed replacing, since a 45-mile detour was the only option. So, the design folks will leave it in place while the new bridge is being built, a hundred feet upstream from the original plan. It may work, but we're going to have to blast out a rock cut. Excavation quantities in the contract have to be refigured. Boredom amidst all the excitement.

At home....interesting new neighbors. They know the meaning of the phrase 'intentional community", and have heard of Burningman. We had dinner at my place last night....ribeyes with fries, green beans, iced tea, and shots of Corralejo. I enjoyed cooking, and the ribeyes were prime....locally raised, grass fed beef. Tender, and tasted great.

Doc, it's not even an argument. It just happened that way, and we got along spendidly. They'll be inviting me over soon because they enjoyed the visit so much, they said. They seemed to be a nice young couple and I'm glad I invited them to dinner.

Excellent choice! That there Corralejo is probably the best tequila around period. Reasonably priced (unlike so-called "premium" tequilas) and remarkably smooth...But, shhhhhh we don't want the distributors to know this, lest we want a price increase. My favorite is the blue bottle, the Reposado. If you like tequila and have never tried this variety, give it a 'shot', you just might thank me. That's my .02, now carry on...

That's the stuff I was serving last night.

You're right - it's SMOOTH.

My neighbors said it was the best they'd ever had.

In Tennessee...we'd call that "sippin' likker". You sit on the front porch with a whole bottle and take all day to do 4 shots. You don't get drunk, you don't even get a buzz. You savor the TASTE of good, well distilled spirits as you watch the world go by and revel in the beauty that life brings forth sometimes. Perfect for viewing fall colors, watching the lightning in a spring thunderstorm, or counting the spots on a newborn fawn deer as it strolls by your porch with mama at her side.

I can't even begin to describe the overall feeling of overall peace that brings.

I took a half-pint of Jack Daniels up Thunderhead mountain in the Great Smokies one year that still remains vivid in my mind. Thunderhead is one of the meanest, plain 'sumbitch' mountains on the Appalachian Trail. The summit is a field of rocks. To climb the last thousand feet, youre going up a 1:1 slope. We spent the night up there in pop-up backpacker's tents, exhausted from the climb up. The next morning, we awoke before dawn, and went to the highest spot we could find, and had breakfast. We each had two jiggers of Jack as we ate our bacon bars and sipped at our hot chocolate. Red-tailed hawks flew in circles around the summit. When the sun rose, we were totally silent and in awe of how the day began. I haven't experienced that silent awe in the default since, but every year in BRC, the same awe is present at the Temple Burn. The default no longer contains all the happiness it used to. The reason I go to BRC is that BRC is where it can return for me.

Just over a month to the precom burn, Interfuse (Midwest Burners). Until then I'm in a state of anticipatory panic stress. Work doesn't help matters much. After that, absolutely NOTHING will stop me from returning to BRC. I know the feeling, and it's there this year big time.
