You are leaving blank one element of the equation: the power. It may not have enough power to "pull" such long-legged gearing.FIGJAM wrote:Doubling the size of the motor pully=doubling the speed.
Combine that with a little larger tire and I think I can get it to 10 mph.

I'm trying to balance that with the load it will haul. (400 pounds)
Seems to have a lot of torque.
I'm at 200, so there should be some extra power to jigger the speed.

Re: Bike Porn!
FYI it is "Ride Your Bike To Work Week" So I am riding a different Burner Bike each day, so yesterday was my avatar bike, today is "furry" below right, and tomorrow, since I buy the office bagels on Thursdays, I need the baskets so 'murica is in the ready, solar lights and all.

Where are you?
In the San Francisco Bay Area, that was last week. And only a day.
All depends on the organizers, I suppose.

Ventura CA, Wheelies in the office! I did laps and rang the bell, note the functionality of my "coffee" cup holder. A great way to talk about the playa year round and a chance to tune up 5 of the bikes. I told everyone that I would ride a different one each day, easier said than done.... panic crank and bottom bracket switch the first night, a flat repair the next night, and a goose neck reset this morning. Added bonus..... playa dust patch in front of my office.

Re: Bike Porn!
Frankensteined a 1962 folding bike.. The frame is heavy. The bearing points are pretty weak from the 60's.. Changed out the coaster brake with a BMX wheel.. That means I have no brakes.. Used the fender hole to mount a caliper brake.. Changed out the front wheel for a BMX wheel.. New seat.. Will add a bear pillow for my poor tender butt. !.17 tires.. Will change them for the playa to 2.75.. Thing rides nice.. I just want a heavy hauler.. It wont take up much room.. Now to add a drawbar to attach the pusher trailer....

Frankenstein bike I put together last week. For heavy hauling, ice and what not.. Strong frame,(1962 folding bike) extra spokes, new hand brake and a hard seat.. The seat will get a teddy bear seat pillows.. The picture is so Frizzboom knows it happened.. The roses are huge the year. Must be the horse shit..

Re: Bike Porn!
Finally got a decent-ish picture of my bike wings in motion! They open and fold closed using braided cabling that hooks over a pipe clamp on the frame to secure them. The wing 'bones' are pvc and the surface is an iridescent fabric. This year's improvements: better angling so they don't droop as much.

^^That is too freaking cool! I am gonna keep an eye out for you, I'd love to see them and person and figure out how they work. Can they fold up or detach if you need to ride through a big crowd?

Re: Bike Porn!
They fold up so the longest 'bone' is parallel to the bike, so they increase the width of the bike by about a foot. They detach for shipping/days when I don't feel like dealing with them.
They're based on these cosplay wings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62jhoXa4ckI but include modifications so they fold smaller and have tension cords to pull them shut as well as open (since gravity doesn't help me the way it does with the wing design in the video).

I would think it would be simpler to just fly over the top of the big crowd
The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.

Time to decorate!!!
Anyone have any experience with rocking LED wheel lights at night? Does the dust mess with them? More hassel than it's worth?

Re: Bike Porn!
A campmate had some hokeyspokes on his bike. Yes, they look cool. Lasted about three days. Not sure if it was the dust or the jolting over uneven terrain which killed them.
On the other hand, we have firefly tire valve caps which are going on ten years old on our rhoadescar.

Re: Bike Porn!
Nice! But my eyes seem to be failing me, for I cannot see how the bike-drawbar is secured from pivoting up and down. The only mounting points I see are the two at the front. I'm thinking it needs to be triangulated to the rear of the luggage rack.
And I recommend using self-locking nuts on everything. (Ny-Loc nuts or similar.)

Re: Bike Porn!
There are electrical (pipe) grounding clamps forward of the axle., All bolted together with nylon nuts..As you prescribe..

Re: Bike Porn!
Those are the ones I see. But those will twist if you don't have a third mounting point, forming a triangle. Just look at the tremendous leverage from the coupling -- almost two feet.

That is a hime joint.. The bike can almost lat down...Elliot wrote:Those are the ones I see. But those will twist if you don't have a third mounting point, forming a triangle. Just look at the tremendous leverage from the coupling -- almost two feet.

Re: Bike Porn!
The Heim joint is fine. I'm talking about the whole hitch structure bending down (or up), similar to how the trailer hitch on your van was sagging.

Re: Bike Porn!
I'll put a little support down from the rack to be on the safe side.. The hitch is on the axle and the ground clamps.. The batteries ride behind the trailer axle.. Less downward load..Elliot wrote:The Heim joint is fine. I'm talking about the whole hitch structure bending down (or up), similar to how the trailer hitch on your van was sagging.
