Planned out meals and booze...sweet sweet booze. 1 case beer, 2 bottles of whiskey, 2 cases of champagne (one good and one for momos), and a handle of good ol vodka. Also got my playa gifts in order. Magnets for all!

Just bought my flight today. Eeeeeek! I fly out precisely four months from now. That seems like such a small amount of time. I HAVE THINGS TO DO/PREP!

My big project today was dig out an outfit for the Participation fair at HQ tomorrow. I'll either be inside explaining how much fun it is to Greet...Or I'll be out side hugging the masses. What fun. Can't wait.

I have a 12v wet/dry vac somewhere around here..
I'll try it out and see if it can compress a bag of moop.. If it works, I'll take it to the playa.. Drawing the air out of moop bags so more fits in a 5 gal. bucket..

Love the ensemble Ratty!
Got the Mr. to the fabric store today and he picked out a cool fleece with license plates printed on it, pretty perfect for ArtCar Camp! Next step is whipping up a loose overcoat pattern.

I bought it for use on human leather, but I suppose it will work for mundane stuff like a vest. I'll be at Barbie Death Camp so bring the vest by. Or to the meet & greet (not sure I'll be sober enough for skin, but leather is no problem).
Yah, I was on the unsuccessful quest to get another brand with Adam and Sarah last burn. I suppose I can put it in my suitcase instead of shipping it out, but I won't have a way to heat it until I hit home despot out there and I'm only in Reno for one night each pre and post burn. I assume you have either a gas stove or grill or propane torch or something we can get it hot enough with at your house.lucky420 wrote:Sweet! Shouldn't be a problem. My schedule is the same as last year - flying in to Reno Wednesday evening, and flying out two Wednesdays later. So unless I'm reading my calendar wrong I'll be in Reno on the 20th and the 2nd.lucky420 wrote:Yep but if it's a pain the ass don't sweat it. What day are you leaving BM?

Bought the vodka and Bloody Mary mix for the pancake breakfast. The stallion and I have been cutting up t-shirts and winding the yarn. Made one arm knit sarong for him, plans to make another and extra balls of yarn to take on playa so I can teach a few people how to arm knit. Busy busy busy

Thank you AntiM for your post, somewhere along the line, about using a Harbor Freight, I think, mini greenhouse for a pantry. When I came upon one a family member was getting rid of I snatched it up today knowing what it would be perfect for.

weird, I actually bought a 4 shelf mini greenhouse today from tool town, and this would be a perfect use for it after my plants are out of it! I also bought my tarps for the monkey hut today

The zippers on my greenhouse are trashed, so I have to decide how to fix or replace them. Ugh.
Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
AntiM, I've had really good results fixing Playafied tent zippers (and North Pole Shade zippers) with White Lightning Clean Ride wax lube. It's liquid, and I keep an acid brush with it for application to the zippers. (the little metal-handled, black-bristled brushes) It can get a bit messy without a brush.AntiM wrote:The zippers on my greenhouse are trashed, so I have to decide how to fix or replace them. Ugh.
I have another, similar product called Squirt, long lasting dry lube (for bike chains), but haven't tried it yet. I imagine it'll work just as well.
Definitely worth a try, and so much easier than replacing the zippers.
Good luck!

The zippery parts are actually okay, but they are tearing out of the cheap plastic. Patching is a headache.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Been making a name tag prototype for beer/soda cans today. We communally collect aluminum cans in camp and are happy to give a beer to anyone who ends up under our shade structure - but last year there were a lot of half-empty beer cans left on the tables. Might have been from camp members too. The sharpie had either given out or disappeared. We happily gift a drink but if you leave it behind half-empty it just turns into greywater and moop that I (or somebody) will have to take care of. So it's a bit of a pet peeve...
I'm thinking of making these for every camp member and some symbol ones for guests. They are made from leftover leather scaps and will be tied to hair ties to easily be slipped over cans. They are reusable for upcoming years too.
I've got no idea if this is a good idea though, still got to come up with an effective way to store them - provided the rest of the camp agrees we need them. But this ought to illustrate the point for the proposal.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Patsh, the bottles look like they have a pretty controlled flow, do you just use the brush to spread it or is it better to actually apply with the brush? Also what seems to work best, do you put it on prior to going to BM and at end or what?I've had really good results fixing Playafied tent zippers (and North Pole Shade zippers) with White Lightning Clean Ride wax lube.
AntiM will be interested to know how you repair the zipper and how. Is it thrashed just from BM or do you use it as a greenhouse as well?

BMan... but because it is opened and closed so much. The zippers themselves are fine, but the plastic where they are stitched in has torn. People need to hold the plastic, not just pull the zipper up or down, and that is a hard detail to get across to everyone consistently.

Use a sack of safety pins to help take the load off the seam threads.. When I make up a tarp.. i do not sew the fold back along the grommet line.. instead i use GooP glue.. works well on the desert..AntiM wrote:BMan... but because it is opened and closed so much. Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
I set up the tent and NPShade, and see how the zippers feel, and apply the wax by drizzling a bit on the brush and brushing it onto both halves of the zipper. Sometimes, it's only a short section of zipper that needs it; other times, the whole thing. The Playa dust tends to make them super dry and sometimes rough. It's easy enough just to keep the bottle and brush handy, and use it any time they need it! The first time using the liquid wax, I had no brush, so just drizzled it along the length of the problem area, but it got pretty messy, pretty fast. Wasteful. The stuff isn't cheap. My 8 oz bottle was $14.99 (Clean Ride) and 4 oz of 'Squirt' was $9.50. Have to save some to fix everyone else's zippers, too!Verve wrote:Patsh, the bottles look like they have a pretty controlled flow, do you just use the brush to spread it or is it better to actually apply with the brush? Also, I found that setting up the tent just a bit looser than usual helps put less stress on the zippers... not loose enough to be flappy, though.
