I was wondering why they referred to me as 'infamous'........hmmm.....brings back a good memory of a wonderful young lady I knew when I was in undergraduate school. She called me "incorrigible". Even at that tender young age I agreed. "Incorrigible and Infamous Rhino"?

Good morning to all.

Time to get moving.

You know how it is...another day, another dollar, but that highway keeps moving on......
Keep in mind, when we're being called incorrigible, listen carefully. Sometimes, they might be saying, "encourageable"...

*blushing*........gawrsh..............

but really, even bicycles and such, are made for "average", and that seems 150 lbs..........and lots of stuff is that way.
Now true, I'll not see 150 unless I'm awfully sick, but, getting closer seems a good idea.
Some of my antics on ladders tied together, strapped to a backhoe bucket, would go better were I lighter,I'm sure..........

I recently purchased a bicycle. Although it is a 27-inch, it feels like it is made for a 5' 6" person. Maybe it needs a banana seat and high-rise handlebars!!! :P

Hey there Kram!!
yeah, that too. not only weight, but "size" of so many "standard" things.........

ha, reminds me of something my daughter said, when she was very young:

"Poppa! You, are not a normal size Poppa"..........I forget what we were talking about, but it was hilarious!!

Morning Kiddies, Just read the past few days of some very informative and funny stuff. Glad you're home safe and sound, YG. Welcome to you newbies to the Bar. Rhino, FJ and BVB in fine fettle. Gave a talk at the Exploratorium last week about volunteering at BRC. Have my pottery on display at our tennis club. First time I've shown my pottery in a long time. We're in for some very hot weather in the next few days. Feels good. My son took me to the Giants game on Friday night for my B'day and it was fun and the beginning of a 3 game sweep. Gonna watch the Warriors hopefully beat the Clippers tonight. Should be a great game with loads of elbows flying.

Hugs to 420, MDF, Elorrum, Fishy, Anti M, Patsh, Jella, Piney, Gamin Wench and so many more of you. Hope we'll be home on the Playa in August together

Tire size has almost nothing to do with bicycle size. What matters is the bicycle frame size, which is the length of the most vertical frame tube -- from the crank to just below the saddle. These come in roughly 1 inch increments. A short person might fit a 16 inch frame. A tall person might need a 22 inch frame. Alas, the Junk-mart stores have no idea -- they sell bicycles by tire size.

Morning all!

Happy year around the sun, Marty!

I rarely have found a bike I could ride, the only super-comfortable ones were the Japanese bikes made for housewives. I called them "shopping bikes" because they not only had a front basket, but a removable rear shopping basket, and side panniers. I could move a lot of groceries on my Japanese bike. I'm short, so the smaller bike fit me well. Nothing like it in the US. Oh well, I can't sit a bike these days anyway, waaah.

Thanks for the bike info Elliot. At first I was hoping to find an offset seat-post that would position me back two-inches or so. What I saw on Amazon didn't look quite right and the posts were rather pricey. I instead opted to raise the seat and position the handlebars a bit higher. It helps somewhat, but a better solution would have been to get the right bike in the first place! Color me ignorant, but I had no idea bike frames were made in such a range of sizes! Well, I won't make that mistake again.

Hi gang!!1

well, summer is starting, weekends filling..........and I'm so looking forward to the Hof party (ies) and all...........
And, MDF and Elorrum will (hopefully, dawgs willing) be here in about 3 weeks, one thing we hope to do is a geology drive to Reno and back, maybe a fun luncheon type thing in Reno with folks?

you might like it, Rhino:
we'll leave Nevada City, up hwy 49, where several cuts and canyons cross the "Mariposa formation", arguably the heaviest gold bearing in the entire mother load, serpentine dikes, old river channel, up to the basic granites of the Sierra Nevada batholith . Volcanics around the Sierrya Buttes, then, over Yuba Summit, down into the Sierra Valley, an ancient high elevation lake bed, surrounded by hot springs and such, across the uplift of the great basin materials on the east side and down into Reno. Then, back across Donner summit, where I'll be able to point out to MDF and Elorrum, the exact fault line of the eastern side (quite visible at Donner Lake), were the summit uplift takes place, and the glaciation creating Donner lake, the cirques of the high Sierras and a well formed glacial valley "Bear Valley" on the way back through pyroclastic flows and such on down and back home.

yes, I may have some terms screwed up.....but well, if you want to follow along on a map:
Nevada City-hwy49 to Downieville, Sierrya City, Loyalton, to hwy 70, east to Hallelujah Junction (via Beckwith pass), intersect hwy 395 south to Reno, Hwy 80 west back to Hwy 20, to Nevada City.

Happy birthday, Marty!!!!

In other news, I tweaked the Page Two thread with a disclaimer, and then added a post with ticket scorekeeping info, so hopefully the regulars will leave the ticketseeker threads alone.

Otherwise it's been a pretty busy day. I've got a couple more ePlaya things I want to try and get to if there's time, we'll see.

Thanks, all for the B"Day greetings. Never too old for a Birthday and it is always great to be remembered.

Great pic of the Hof view, Lucky. Got in two sets of tennis this morning before it got too hot.

Happy Hump Day!

I often install BMX ("stump jumper") handlebars. It requires longer cables (if applicable), but that's very doable.
A BMX bar also makes for a big improvement over the silly back-swept "beach cruiser" bars, which tent to hit people in the knees.

This bike used to be a drop-bar road racer!

I had a fun trip down memory lane tonight, scrubbing through a bunch of footage shot at the 2005 burn. There might be enough usable stuff to post a couple clips, fingers crossed...
