Finding a Theme Camp for 2014
Finding a Theme Camp for 2014
Hey,
I've read all over this forum and various Burning Man websites, and I can't seem to find the information I'm looking for in terms of joining a theme camp.
Questions:
1) Is there a list somewhere that shows which theme camps plan to be at Burning Man for 2014? If not, when will this list be posted?
2) My friend and I are looking to join a theme camp. Is there somewhere that gives a list of theme camps that are looking for members and explains what the ideology of each theme camp is? If not, can anyone give suggestions about how to find a theme camp?
I apologize if these questions seem basic -- any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Mikey

Re: Finding a Theme Camp for 2014
Hello and welcome to the site. It's probably worth mentioning that you've done a terrible, terrible job of reading all over this forum and various Burning Man websites. I'm not saying that to be mean or insulting, but to help you reconsider what you might think constitutes reading all over.
From the burningman.com web site, at the very top of the page, is a link that says "Theme Camps" (yeah, that easy). On the theme camps page you'll find a bunch of info about those types of camps, and right there on the right side of the page is an archive list of theme camps from previous years' events. This year's list has not yet been published (if you read any of the posted information or did any prior research, you'd know that the questionnaires only closed last week).
If you're just looking here on ePlaya, you missed two threads IN THIS VERY FORUM that are highlighted with a lightbulb icon and stuck to the top of the list (so they're always on the first page of topics). How to join a theme camp, and how to start a theme camp. No digging and searching required, it's pinned to the top of the first page of this very category.
Good luck with your reading and research, as well as finding a camp.

Re: Finding a Theme Camp for 2014
Well here's how it USED to be done:
You and your friend GO to Burning Man, set up camp, have a ball, and make friends.
Most likely you'll meet people you want to camp with the next year.
There seems to be a perception that you have to "join a camp" at Burning Man.
I can't see any reason to need or want to camp with complete strangers. You will of course show up in Black Rock Desert with everything you need to sustain yourself... like the Burning Man Survival Guide says... right?

Exactly that. 100%. Personally, I blame it on the "how to join a theme camp"-thread. We should have a "how not to join a theme camp" one too.Captain Goddammit wrote:Well here's how it USED to be done:

Is it possible to be too snarky and sarcastic?

You know, I had forgotten it until I saw your thread, I remembered that I wanted to start one. I was planning to call it "You Don't Need a Theme Camp".*Kat* wrote:Done!

It might sound odd, but I'm happy that you've started one.
