Helicopter Medivac costs/insurance
Does anyone know what a medivac via helicopter costs from BRC? I ask not because I intend to need it, but just to cover myself. My insurance company will pay 75% of reasonable and customary for a helicopter ambulance trip (their R&C maxes out at $20,000) If it's less than $20k, I'd be willing to self insure (risk paying up to $5000) if I need it. If it's more, I might want to look into supplementary insurance.
On that note, does anyone know what the insurance costs?
Thanks!

I "heard" one quote of 60k. Little rich for me..
Salem city has a Fire-med program and can attach Life-flight for under a 100 buck a year.. Nv Life Flight will honor the Salem program.. Figure that's pretty good bang for the buck..

Subscribe to the Jack Rabbit Speaks newsletter, and stay tuned. That information is usually published a little later in the year.

A client of mine was in a bad wreck near Beaumont. Life Flighted from the scene 85 miles to the ER. $37K. Didnt include the medical care which is provided by the EMS.

I believe most travel insurance policies cover medical transport and the policy I take out for my burn trip runs about 30.00 for their best policy. IIRC it covers up to 100k in emergency medical expenses.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Re: Helicopter Medivac costs/insurance
I think that it's more than 20K now, but my understanding of it is fuzzy, because it's based on information of my husband's two evacuations. A decade ago... And I didn't look at the bills myself.chuckularone wrote:Does anyone know what a medivac via helicopter costs from BRC? I ask not because I intend to need it, but just to cover myself. I believe in travel disaster insurance, having had my own travel disaster a few years back. I think it was 80 bucks when they started it, so even at twice that, it's cheap... (Depending on resources, of course.)

See, I think it's grand humor. But we all know I have the wrong attitude about disability.unjonharley wrote:family got upset when I called my braces leg irons.

Re: Helicopter Medivac costs/insurance
Aigh't #burners this is straight from the horses mouth, just got off the phone with my AAA representative here in Kansas City. As a AAA _Premier_ member, a catastrophic injury while on playa requiring a medical life flight IS covered by your policy, topping out at $25,000 in coverage. There _are_ caveats and information outlined in the membership manual is shared at the end of my post.
BEFORE LEAVING, formulate your "In Case of Emergency" information. It is highly recommended that you attach your regular health insurance membership card, (Veterans Administration identification card if you have one), and your AAA Premier card. Include with this information the direct AAA services telephone number, which is 866-275-4222. (And as a backup, the emergency International travel/medical emergency number, which accepts collect calls, at 804-673-1563.) Frankly, I recommend finding a place to keep this information on your person throughout the entirety of your event. (From your driveway to BRC and back to driveway.) You may perhaps want to take that a step further, executing a signed notification along the lines of, "In the event that I _legal name_ am incapacitated and suffering a medical emergency, I authorize [insert your flavor of description of your significant other, emergency contact, EMS or anyone else] to seek approval to transport me via ambulance, air, etc."
"Your emergency medical transportation limit is the total amount available for all covered services described below. You or your representative must contact Us and We must make all transportation arrangements in advance. We will not pay for any of the services listed in this section if We didn’t authorize and arrange it. This benefit is secondary to any existing benefits provided by a Covered Person’s health or automobile insurance. We reserve the right to coordinate benefits with other insurance coverage."
Schedule of Coverage Benefits+ Limit
Trip Interruption $1,500
Vehicle Return $500
Baggage Coverage $500
Emergency Medical Transportation $25,000
Repatriation of Remains $5,000
---
I am presently on hold acquiring further information from the national AAA customer service folks. Specifically, I'll find out if there is an exception to the "We must make all transportation arrangements in advance" stipulation when in remote locations that do not facilitate addressing this "in real time" during an actual emergency... and will report those findings.
