See? This is the bullshit I was talking about. This guy paid $400 goddamm dollars for a ticket and it's no good because he hasn't got the stupid vehicle pass. And he's not allowed to walk in.
Tell me again what this excercise in red-tape accomplished? Reducing traffic? Sure. By screwing guys like this one out of using his $400 ticket.
Oh, what's that you say? Don't fret, they printed plenty for everyone or will issue more if needed? OK, so we still have as many cars, but because they all bought the pass, something was done about the so-called "problem" of too many cars in a huge desert.

Yep. I understand. It makes sense. No reason to call BS on this whatsoever. Looks perfectly straight-up legit.
This is America and we operate on taxes and red tape. It still beats communism but it sure ain't perfect.

People wanting,, Should post something of a back ground to why they need..

I see a nice class action.. BM sells x tickets.. Joe smuck lives in bumfuck Wisc. Can not buy a pass..There maybe as many as 2-3 thousand out a pass..

No, Hold on, There is away around this... You can load up you can with everything you will need for weeks camping in the desert..Jump in and drive from bumfuck nowhere to Reno or SF..Sure Burner Express is ramped up to handle an extra few thousand riders..After driving that distance you will leave your car out on the street for a week. Orrr pay to park.. Last time I flew out on short notice, Pay to park was $30 a day.. So now your standing on the curb waiting to load the BE. The Burning Man TSA tells you.. You have to much stuff.. You can leave it on the curb or some how get it back to your car.. Car prowlers like cars with stuff in them.. And the bus ticket is how much more than a car pass.. You have already payed the gas and wear to get to the bus..Say what? You have bicycle? That'll be a $100.00 more..

Now just be a happy little camper.. BUT.. It's not time to let go of your socks just yet.. While your still bent over taking it for the high price of the bus add on' s.. We have some real good news.. With limited camp gear you were allowed you now get to eat, sleep and what the fuck out of a HOT tent (no shelter) for a week.. You thought you could bring a shower and gray water evaporator.. That along with other comfort were left for the car prowlers..
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.

@Captain Goddammit - It's not Burning Man's fault this guy neglected to get a vehicle pass at the time the ticket was purchased (vehicle passes were available during the entire time tickets were available).

MAK2014 - if you're unable to find a vehicle pass before then, they will be sold in the OMG sale later this year. Alternatively, you could take the Burner Express bus from Reno or sort out a rideshare. Good luck.

Read my rant :!: :!: The passes sold out.. The OMG will be sold with ticket.. Selling ticket that can not be used is fucked up no matter how stupid you say the buyer is.. Forcing the disabled to buy the pass is against the law.. Don't tell me to apply after I buy a ticket and wait..The added stress put on a disable is also against the law..

"In my opinion" Burning Man is setting it's self up for a disaster.. First, forcing X amount of people to ride the bus able only to carry minimal resources.. One rain storm and there swimming in mud.. No way out.. A shanty town of tent is begging for a wild fire.. No way out.. Each bus making X trips  Anyone think exit lines are bad  .. Look at the poor smuck waiting at the bus stop.. They will not get out until the fat lady sings and then some.. How many trip to and from SF or Reno can be made in a day.. Let see some smart ass jump up and tellme Burner Express has a fleet of busses

OK,, So do I have a plan.. YES. Put a toll box at the turn around/entrance to the playa.. 40 bucks on the spot or turn around.. That would mean all the pretty people that come in without a pass would pay..Including Larry himself..

The passes did not sell out. As I've said and as is posted in the FAQ, vehicle passes will be available in all the sales. This includes the OMG sale.

@unjonharley - I don't think it's so much a case of stupid, so much as you've already pre-determined that the system will fail, and you're blind to details that don't support your position. I maintain that in addition MAK2014's thread he/she can keep an eye open for the OMG sale later in the year, or alternatively look into the Burner Express bus, or consider a rideshare.

Yes I went over the OMG ticket thing.. It will be another horse race to a sell out..

Also the Burner Express, after you come from timbuck nowhere to SF or Reno.. Burner Express hasn't even gotten it's duck in a row.. Let alone being ready to take up any added slack.. Or cover it's ass in event of a bug out..The people with Burner Express will have limited resource and are not able to withstand a shit storm of any kind the playa can hand out.... Not everyone can piss into the wind like an old burner... I don't think the system has failed.. The pretty people got there ticket first.. Didn't hear anything about passes there. Then the hordes of chaos run a mad race to get tickets and passes.. Burner Express isn't on the board but telling everyone they can handle anything.. Now you have people all over the planet without passes.. You come in and say: They can ride the short bus.... The last time I picked up a hippie on the way to a fest.. He smelled so f..en bad.. I'm sure I can smell it every time I think about sharing my ride.. As time go's by.. I will be offering ride share from Salem or pick up along the way..
Your sure BMorg has all of it ducks in a row, I'm not that sure..

Funny, seemed to work well enough last year that they're expanding it this year. Yes, there were first year hiccups, but the people I've talked to who took it loved it (and they went into it dreading the "fucking hippie bus"). Will your camp be as fancy as if you drove yourself up? No. Does it need to be? Not according to thread after thread of information on here...

That is what killed The Oregon Country Fair.. To many people come to look and not bring anything.. Then the bringers stopped bringing.. So it turned into a large shopping stop in the woods.. Preforming arts has to be bought.. No more art.. Just high priced craft stuff..

Now here is a question.. Is the Gerlach to BRC bus only for Burner Express? Can I pay a farmer to park my van and ride the bus? Suppose not, The camp supply truck has to time in with Ger-BRC..

It would be hard to ride share with me.. Eagles Nest Friday nite.. Cedarville county fair Sat.. Camp over nite half way Cedarville-BRC. D lot 3:30 Sunday afternoon. In BRC 6-8:00.. Leave BRC Monday morning.. Cedarville fire dept breakfast.. 9 hours to Salem with old man pit stops, may be longer..

If you wanted to catch me in Cedarville on Sat. And be Cedarville again Mon.

I would have room for about 500 pounds on the trailer and one set in the van..

Same as a air line.. I buy a ticket, they do not charge extra for medical equipment.

They are not allowed to tell me to find other means.. Or put up and blocks.. Or stress me out on the subject..

No I understand the airlines and public transportation but this isn't either of those. Not being argumentive just trying to get this straight in my head :?

You buy ticket to this event and vehicle pass. Everyone (those with vehicles) needs v pass so this is not a matter of discrimination or reasonable accommodation. It's just a requirement of being able to bring your vehicle to event but once in the event you are allowed to drive in playa, etc.

But then again I do see what you're saying as far as "this is the only way (because of my disability) that I can attend the event (using my medical needs vehicle) and Bmorg can't charge me vehicle pass.

I have a very good ADA source and will try to remember to ask him next time I see him. As an advocate I am interested in learning about all the different regs. Helps me do my job better.

As this is the last unclosed thread concening vehicle passes I thought I would pass along an interesting thing that happened to one of our campers.Probably naively he looked into buying a vehicle pass by contacting the BMORG directly. Here is his message to me.

.I reached our to BM administration for a vehicle pass and got some clear information

Vehicle Passes may be purchased in STEP only as part of an event ticket purchase. STEP demand has exceeded supply at this time.

No surprise here. However the next day I got this message from him.Seemingly, out of the blue, his vehicle pass problem was taken care of!

Check this out....

When I first contacted BM administration I was told no way could I buy a vehicle pass

Now I got this reply says I can using the attached code.

He was then aloowed to buy TWO vehicle passes. There was NO ticket purchase offer included.

I asked him whether or not this was through STEP and he did not think so.Later I looked it up and you can only buy 1 VP through STEP so probably not that.I have always felt that there would be more VPs available as the event drew closer and maybe, judging by this, there will be.

With only 1000 tickets in the OMG sale, they will sell out quickly. Will they continue to sell passes once tickets are gone?

I have much more information than I posted above but do not want this person or office to be swamped with requestsJust say this campers dogged approach got him 2 vehicle passes through none of the established channels.May work for everyone else too,who knows..Point is there seemigly are "extra" VPs out there and would not be a surprise if BMORG announced that very thing.

Burning Man,it seems to me, has always placed a bar at where they think the approptiate behavior should be.They then are probably happy if they get to,say, 80% of said bar,Be it moop, grey water, sound etc.So it might be with these vehicle passes. The passes have already"worked" as many have made concrete plans without a vehicle they probably would have taken originally.

It's difficult to say, based on the vague information you've posted (if you're genuinely interested to know, send me more details via PM rather than posting anything publicly, I can try to investigate). But remember, vehicle passes are not in the short supply that you think they may be. While they are not available for general sale right now, Burning Man is not sold out of Vehicle Passes.

Many of those who prophecized some kind of doom back when vehicle passes were first announced were certain that they would either all be gobbled up during the Directed Group Sale, or disappear quickly in the Individual Sale... neither of which happened. Vehicle Passes were available during the entire time that Burning Man tickets were on sale, and my understanding is that they were sold at roughly the rate that was expected. Remember, the total number of vehicle passes being made available this year were more than enough to cover peoples' needs even if they didn't improve upon their carpooling efforts over last year. Because let's face it, while some camps had members who had room to improve, others already do a lot of work to manage their logistics and rideshares.

Vehicle Passes will be sold in the OMG sale (registration starts later this month, then the sale happens in early August). The best recommendation I can give for any camp or group of people traveling to the event is to take a look at your needs and make sure you're covered. If you will need additional vehicle passes make plans to register for and purchase them in the OMG sale. I'd like to say smooth sailing, but I'm sure there will be a crush during those first minutes the sale opens up because the last few event tickets go on sale then too.
