ooooh the Jackrabbit notes a change of temple builders today:

'Update: The 2014 Burning Man Temple

We're announcing an unexpected change for Burning Man 2014: this year's Temple in Black Rock City will not be the previously announced Temple of Descendents. Unfortunately artist Ross Asselstine was unable to agree to the terms of our agreement and elected to halt the project.

If you contributed financially to the project, thank you for supporting this community effort. The Temple of Descendents Crew will ensure your contributions are refunded.

We are happy to report that David Best has stepped up and agreed to build yet another of his incredible creations for Black Rock City in 2014. It will be entitled "Temple of Grace", and we'll have design details for you very soon!'

Y'know, Best's Temples can be lovely, but I don't see why they didn't choose one of the other groups that applied to do the Temple, instead of giving it to the guy who invented the tradition and has done more of the structures than any other group. Just seems... lazy.

Yup.

I know there's a song (aria) in Il Travatore when the crazy gypsy woman sings about throwing a baby in the fire, but I've forgotten the name of it.

And I was looking forward to seeing a surprise temple built by a new crew.

Knowing it will most likely look like almost every other temple is kind of a let-down... But whatever! I don't go to BM for the temple anyways!

BMorg: We really like your overall design but all that paint over the structure just won't work.

BMorg: We understand, but it creates a lot of pollution and is a safety hazard when we burn your temple on Sunday...

He would probably have said MY temple.

But it is easy for us to make jokes. I've started projects I couldn't finish, for a variety of reasons. The guy is probably kicking himself plenty.

Yes, that's possibility also. But it is all just silly speculation.
