Good morning all! Let's have some :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I have a zillion cares & distractions piled up on me here, but, my brother made it through a big surgery yesterday and should be getting out of ICU today, so, yay for that!

If I can make it through today without anything going really wrong, I will be immensely grateful.

Hooray for your brother's successful surgery and getting out of the ICU, MDF!

Elliot, enjoy your well-deserved year off from working the event. One thing I like about Maker Faire is that there are plenty of opportunities to participate throughout the day, even as a punter. I especially enjoy chatting up the people at the interesting booths to talk about their projects and technology (which reminds me, I need to load some project pics onto an electronic device to take with me). I saw there was some kind of call on FB to 'bring steampunk back' (at least as a fashion trend) to the Faire, Pandorra and I will probably wear something in the style as well and hope to run into you at some point.

Woohoo, Lucky, we're excited to be coming up for it! Big thanks to Nilasnake for her help in us getting that ball rolling.

Morning MDF, ASD, Lucky. Hot one here today. Skipping the Maker's Faire this year. Trillo, It does need two days and more to really see and absorb it all. Saving my strength for the Hof! Hope you continue to feel better, YG

Double shot espresso in an iced vanilla coffee, please, for me.

Wow.

The times, they are a changing. My Yankee pot roast is responsible (yes, it IS that good).

I now have a new girlfirend. She wants to go to BRC with me in 2015. She came over on Monday night for dinner. We sat and discussed the 'possibilities' of being together. Before she left that night, we decided to make a go at it. Might even move her in before next year. Taking it slow for now, though. I value my life and independence. She enjoys hers. I'm getting ready for BRC, and teaching her what she'll need.

That's roughly my story from a little while back.
Charlie came to BRC and she totally loved it.
Hopefully yours will too. Prior to that I endured a few ill-fated messes with dream killer types.
It's good when your partner shares interests but this one is kind of a biggie because it's such a time money and effort intensive one.

Wow! I'm going to the Makers Fair for the 1st time this Saturday. Can't wait. I usually miss everything because of work. (All the parades in the City). I temporarily have such a light workload I'm looking to do as much as possible before the euphoria gets snatched away and I'm back to scheduled shifts.

And hooray for you too, Ratty! I think you'll really enjoy it, I'm constantly blown away by the creativity and inventiveness of the people showing off their creations. I'm glad things lined up so you can get the day to explore.

Mornin' campers!

I don't usually do movie revues, and I'm not going to do one now. Exactly. But I went and saw Neighbors yesterday. Thank God for the Tuesday $6 special at UA. It's not that it wasn't very good (it wasn't) but way too much stupid drug "humor", not anywhere enough nudity (is there ever?), but at the very end Seth Rogan's friend and his bitchy girlfriend Skype him from...wait for it, wait for it, wait for it...Burning Man. (How the hell can you even Skype out there with such shitty internet connection if it's even available at all?) And Rogan answers (keep in mind he's been doing mushrooms and enough pot to get Humboldt County stoned), "No, that's too much of a party for me." Oh great, how's that for "positive" publicity? Oh well, back to taking down Wall Street one dollar at a time.

+1 to that. I haven't seen that movie, but have noticed that the mindless junk comedy genre seems to be cutting down on the nudity and sex and really boosting the number drug use/reference gags. Come on, Hollywood, get it together!

You got that right.

I CRINGE every time there's a volcano movie.

First, it was an insult to my intelligence with a tag line from "Volcano":

The coast is toast.

I won't go into how lava would NOT react and flow through concrete sewer pipes to within mere feet of 'geologist' Anne Heche. The concrete would turn to DUST, and Anne Heche would have turned into a CINDER.

Then it was Pierce Brosnan driving through flowing lava in a Toyota Land Cruiser in 'Dante's Peak".

I kept hoping that 'M' would pop up in the back seat and admonish Brosnan a la his James Bond Role with something like "Mr. Bond, you aren't meant to drive Her Majesty's Property though an active lava flow....do you know how much this rigged-out ATV costs?"

I collect BAD science movies, and the list goes on and on.....'Deep Impact"; "Armageddon", "Megafault", "Joe Versus the Volcano"...all make me want to hurl chunks of concrete at the directors, and hurl chunks at the actors as well. Hollywood is in it for a big buck. Reality is much more entertaining.

I laugh at zombies, spit on vampires, and fart on werewolves.

And the Frogbat still eats hippies.

Rhino- Mazel Tov on the new partner. You are indeed awesome; I'm glad someone realizes it.

Almost threw down at my local bar tonight. This chick was yelling at and being verbally abusive to a friend there. I asked if he had dated her, cause usually that level of hostility implies previous boot-knocking. But no. She's just a local psycho.

I really dislike women who are abusive towards men who they know will not fight back. So I stood up and asked if there was a problem. Her issue today was that she had asked him for a club soda and a napkin and he had ignored her. I laughed in her face and she walked off making fun of my hair to her friends.

The friends came back later to apologize for her. Major issues there.

I don't want to in any way, shape, or form be an apologist for those lazy storytellers in Los Angeles, but could this represent a cultural shift also recently expressed by the legalization of pot in Washington and Colorado? Jokes often exist at those awkward points, after all.

:coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I was mindlessly watching Mixology last night, stupid sit-com, and the guy was looking at women in the bar who were potential "fall-backs" to take home to have sex with. One was referred to as "Burning Man", nasty black hair which was not quite dreads, matted beige faux fur vest and severe black glasses. A poorly done cross between stereotypical dirty hippie and man-hating feminazi. "I can literally see the dirt on her face" was the remark about her potentially being a dirty girl. I have never seen anyone so bland on the playa. And one of her lines was, "I do a lot of drugs". I seriously wondered if the writers were purposefully trying to put people off TTITD.

Then I wondered why the fuck I was watching such crap.

Belushi and Aykroyd did a movie called Neighbors in 1981. Strange and hilarious. Probably where they ripped off the current POS.

Neighbors was a fabulous book. I think I'll reread it and see if it stood the test of time. Maybe it just fit into my personal scenario. Lesbians and spaghetti.
