Hey guys !

I've been posting for a little while but I did not introduce myself on that particular topic.
My name's Joker, 2013 was my first burn and I'll be back for more this summer  I'm soooo excited !
I'm based in Paris, but I'm moving out to live in Seattle for a few years, starting 20th of August. Just the time to drop my bags somewhere, and off to Burning Man !

I had the feeling I saw a LOT of things for my first burn, but when I looked at some pictures or videos of the events, I did not recognized a single place (Man and Temple apart). I realized even better than when I was actually on the playa how f******g big this place is, and how many things are out there for you too see. So this year I'm decided to see and experience the things I missed on 2013... but I know I won't see even 10% of it :P

So, your Jewish parents named you Christian? and you were either raised or later became an atheist?

What a rude question!
You don't have to answer.

But, if I had been my family's third boy, instead of the third girl, I would have been John Christian, called Christian. To differentiate me from my older brother, John Sebastian.

First one who can tell me of the significance of those names gets some polka patches.

Ahaha! Cryptofishist, My mother was a catholic, my father is Jewish. So technically, I am not Jewish. I was raised a Catholic and then later in life I shed religion and became an atheist. But! That doesn't stop me from using the dichotomous name. I love Jews!

Hello everyone, my name is Arion the Lion, aka Cenoura. I live in Northern California off grid in a wonderful little cabin I built, I am a raft guide but also my life revolves around Capoeira. I've been part of BM since 2009 and have always tried to organize capoeira at center camp. This coming burn 2014, I am going to be teaching capoeira workshops and want to host a special event for all participants to really help capoeira grow in Black Rock City and world wide. My intention is to provide structure so everyone may learn and participate in this beautiful art form. Please feel free to contact me, because the more people involved the better the energy. Thanks and AXE

G'day, Bear here from Canberra/Melbourne Australia (yes, we have cities other than Sydney, but we still ride kangaroos to work all of them).

6X Nevada veteran and 2-year Ranger, I camp with Freestyle Palace in Nevada near the 9 o'clock portal. I'm also a bit involved in the burgeoning Australian Burner scene. We now have TWO regional burns down under - Burning Seed and Blazing Swan - along with KiwiBurn in New Zealund, the longest-running regional outside of the US. Planning on that one in January 2015.

I grew up in Chicago and San Francisco, moved out here in 2007 and absofuckinlutely love it! Try it you will like it.

My favorite color is blue. My favorite thing to wear on playa is a dress and/or helmet. Favorite food is platypus quesadillas.

Burning love from down under! (Your mom gave me this rash ;-)

Hello!

My name is Jill and I'm from Toronto, Ontario. I may have introduced myself to you last year on the playa as "Shit the Bed, Shut the Door" (my very clever playa name). 2013 was my first induction into the world of BM and lets just say that I still can't bring myself to wash the dust off of my shoes because I loved it so much. Anyways, this year will be my SECOND burn... if I can make it down that is, as I'm still trying to figure out some kinks - like how to get there (perhaps the Burner Express? I'll most likely be going solo!) - whatever the case, hope to see all you wonderful people out there!
take me down to black rock city

Hi , I'm Jennifer,
I live in Greenville SC and am happy to announce my meager wages have granted me a dream come true opportunity to come HOME .
I've followed Burning Man for years with mouth open, drooling need to be a part. This year, I started REALLY doing my homework, got on Facebook , and after abused and torture am a real part of conversation and wit in the Group - I fit in fine with much snark added to every thread ...
I'm amazed at the friends I have made already and am doing everything but sell my kidney to get West to roll in dust and ring that bell !!! I just found a ride share on the Rideshare page, and it appears all is in time with my life plan-we'll see if I get an email soon .
I am all about advocacy for unjust, and am waiting for an offer with an application for Americorp Vista to be a service member in California either for HAbitat for Humanity , OR HeathCare in SF.
I am a mom, a grammy, 43, single, and a happy, amazing and lonely girl in a world of Southern Baptist Bible thumping communities.
I gave up explaining Burning Man Long ago here - I get sneered at and no understanding-not my cross to bear!
See you there if I have to Hitchhike-it is time.
I love you all, fuckers !

Hi,
Medcineman51 here. This will be my 4th burn, can't wait to go home. Bringing a Birgin with me this time so it will be cool to see how she reacts.

We have our tickets and car pass so we are set. Starting to prep now and working on my list of things to do. My girl can't believe the prep involved but she will understand once we get there.

We have a friend that has a ticket but no car pass so we will be trying to score one for him on the boards.

See all you guys on the playa

What's up, beautiful people?! My name is Danielle and I'm from phoenix, az (it's not that hot... ) some double, but mainly contact staff has been my quiet time. I've had the privilege of getting close with some amazing burners these past 4 years and I never had the funds until now. Finally! This year I'm able to roll around in the dust and meet a big handful of you awesome humans.
We phoenix burners go to black rock city to escape the heat. 8)

Welcome Yanni! You will need a Vehicle Pass also -- or, to be exact, the vehicle you arrive in will need one. Be sure you/they have that. As for second-hand camping gear and such, the best source I can think of is Craigslist. I believe there is an online buy-n-sell web site for burner, maybe a Facebook page -- maybe somebody will be along shortly with that information.

What sort of art and community contribution are you planning?

There's a Facebook group called Burning Man Classifieds. Not so much second hand gear but you could check it out.

Also welcome Killroy and Yanni :)

I'm April. I heard about Burning Man from boyfriend, he went last year and we are hoping to get tickets for this year. Signed up for Step Program and hoping that that someone has tickets they need to sell.

This is a good place to get info on all that Burning Man offers and crossing my fingers/good karma that we get tickets :)

Love and Peace to everyone!

Hi, Dax here. Always wanted to go to Burning Man, never made the opportunity happen for myself though. Except this year, I'm trying to make it happen. The timing is right in my life. I've been meeting burners, dating this amazing girl, going to local events and fundraisers, going to the local regional (Burn in the Forest) and generally just loving the entire scene. I've been searching hard for one ticket and vehicle pass to meet my friends there. I've been on the STEP since it opened and I've already made a post in the Tickets Wanted section. Here's hoping.

Jambo, all. Greta here. A Birgin. Crossing my fingers for BM 2015. However, I have a post on a separate (more relevant) forum about people of my age attending the event. I am currently 18, will be 19 shortly after Burning Man 2014, and 20 shortly after Burning Man 2015. I am worried about how someone of my age will be received by the Burner community, and if I will be written off as a child. While I am aware of my youth, I have been told I am quite mature (aware of the lack of credibility here). I enjoy Tim Burton, 90's music, astronomy, and READING (esp. fantasy and old British novels, go Jane Austen!). My parents, aunts, and an abundance of family friends go every year so I consider myself as acquainted with BM as I can be while confined to my Birgin status. Any thoughts are appreciated, though if you're not honest you're not helping anyone

Hi Greta!

Don't worry about your age too much. There are burners of all ages. The most common age group is approximately 25-40. You're not too much younger than that; you won't really stick out much.

If you know your stuff (The Survival Guide backwards and forwards) and do your best to participate and contribute and exhibit the 10 Principles, I honestly don't think people will care much one way or the other.

Avoid drinking at playa bars though--anyone that serves you can get a large fine, and as I imagine you agree, to pay back their (negligent) generosity with that punishment is unkind.

Welcome to the board. :)

Hiya! I'm Cherry, originally from the Philadelphia area and now a DC resident. I've been attending Burner events in the DC, Philly and NYC area for two years - hanging with Bubbles and Bass, PEX, Disorient, Mischief, Meso Creso - and I'm thrilled to be attending Burning Man for the first time this year.

I'm already so incredibly grateful for all of the help and guidance I've received by reading through your posts here on eplaya and by mingling with others in the community who've reached out to impart their wisdom - thank you for trailblazing and sharing your experience! Can't wait to get to Black Rock City!
