So I was looking at some of the latest pictures from Mt. St. Helens and a cow orker of mine wanted to know how hot the rocks were and I mentioned that they had been measured yesterday at like 1200 F and so he's all "wow, you could certainly sear some steaks on a rock that hot" and so then I'm all "yeah, and then lift the steak up an inch or two and just let it roast from the heat radiating off of it" and so then we are both cracking up saying wouldn't it be a hoot to have two yahoos show up at the ranger station at St. Helens with a bunch of steaks saying they wanted to go up to the volcano and cook them. I said I would want video tape of that.

Anyway, there is a nice pic of the new lava dome growth busting up through the glacier here:

and if you just chop the _med off the URL you will get a hires version.

Weather permitting, they have been posting pics that the folks at the observatory are taking here:

http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Volcanoes/MSH/Images/MSH04/

The live cam has been good at times but it is often fogged in. A good indication of activity can be had by looking at the webicorders for seismic activity. Looking at the June Lake plot it seems that background activity has increased a bit today as compared to yesterday. The daily update says that the uplift is moving in a Southerly direction in the central crater and is nearing the crater wall. That is the side opposite from the blown out North side. It will be interesting to see what happens when it reaches that wall. It might result in some rather spectacular ice/rockslides in the crater.

CONCORD, N.H. - A federal judge has ordered a man known as the "Spam King" to disable so-called spyware programs that infiltrate people's computers, track their Internet use and flood them with pop-up advertising.

U.S. District Judge Joseph DiClerico issued a temporary restraining order Thursday against Stanford Wallace and his companies, SmartBot.net Inc. of Richboro, Pa., and Seismic Entertainment Productions Inc. of Rochester. SmartBot's principal place of business is Barrington.

Prosecutors sought the injunction on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission, which targeted Wallace in its first anti-spyware action.

The judge ordered Wallace to remove software code that exploits security holes in computer operating systems and Web browsers, then tracks people's Internet use to bombard them with pop-up ads.

Wallace also is accused of trying to sell computer users $30 remedies called "Spy Wiper" and "Spy Deleter" that the FTC says don't work.

"Spyware" describes a broad category of software that can be installed through unsafe e-mails or Web pages. It sometimes is bundled with other software that consumers download and install, such as file-sharing programs that can be used to download music and movies illegally.

Spyware programs quietly monitor which Web sites a consumer visits, and some may even redirect users to different sites. They can make computers sluggish or cause them to crash.

"We see it as good relief for consumers," FTC attorney Laura Sullivan said of DiClerico's order. She could not say how pervasive Wallace's spyware was.

Wallace's lawyer, Ralph Jacobs of Philadelphia, said Wallace wants "to use the Internet for advertising in lawful and proper ways."

"There are a wide range of advertising practices on the Internet that use some of the techniques the FTC objects to, and the defendant looks forward to an opportunity to establish exactly what advertising practices are allowable," Jacobs said.

Wallace formerly headed a company called Cyber Promotions in the 1990s that sent as many as 30 million junk e-mails daily to consumers, earning him the nicknames "Spamford" and "Spam King." He left the company after lawsuits by America Online and CompuServe.

The judge scheduled a hearing for Nov. 9.

I can't believe this guy is still doing this crap. Spamford Wallace is pretty much single-handedly responsible for email spam. I can't believe anyone will still sell him an Internet connection. Before him and his Cyberpromo stunts, mail server administration was a breeze and anyone would relay mail for you if your server was down.

I wish someone would take a big can of tard spray to that guy.

I do not intend to disorient others, but have that affection.

They have thought me odd, a different point of veiw some have taken a ride with me on a story or two.... like my dear brother Paul today, or my freind last night. She said it felt surreal to be with me.

Her mother told he as she left "Guard your heart" .

I am proud beyond words that she has held my hand & maybe she & I will stay.

This fleeting thing, pursuit of love only fleets when pursued as if somewhere else or other than, when in reailty always here with me.

I do not know what she wants.
She likes me, so it is confusing.

On the lighter side... last night my brother & I were talking & listening about a lot of ideas, and the subject of Love, or rather, love, came up.

That often it seems to end & be thought a failure.

He likened a mis-match "doomed to failure" was Billy Joel & Cristine Brinkley..... I countered that some might think a single night with either a great sucess, and they had many years.

Each moment with you, a treasure
is what I figure.

Last night I was upset by thinking that people were fighting in the bar.
It was my last refuge of peace.... a place free of conflict.

So I left my heart beating there, symbolically.

It was naked & alone yet strong & without end, no matter what, it beat.

It was misunderstood to be a personal crisis of one-on-one in my life. I write very poorly, to be always vague to others though clear to myself.

I am sorry beyond words to have afflicted worry upon my freinds when it was for them I had imagined helping to forget petty greiviennces of no importance... by changing the subject to humanity & want of love.

Carry on, you fuckers (& i mean that affectionately)!

Love & shit & stuff,
