Well it is about time...

Post by Major Ruckus » Sun Jun 01, 2014 9:36 pm

Hello everyone!

I should have posted a long time ago. I am on here all the time reading posts and keeping up on what is going on. I just have to get better at posting a response. I blame this on not really being a computer person and spending most of the year working myself into exhaustion building stuff to bring with me, hehe. My first year was 2008 from a last minute change of plans and I was only able to be there a couple of days. There have been very few times in my life where something sounded so right as when I heard people say to me " Welcome Home." It seems to be the place on this earth where I fit best and I have worked hard to come back every year since. I learned the hard way not to do too much in 2009 with my first art car called Big News. Things were a lot smoother in 2010 with just a small art piece out on the playa called When all is Metropolis. In 2011 I camped with new friends and became part of the theme camp S'mores and Amour and I built my first TARDIS! The TARDIS 1.0 was stationary and used to camp inside of( The back wall pulled out two feet and was still enclosed for room to lay down and the side window was removable to run A/C, it returned to regular TARDIS shape when not being used.) Knowing I had bigger plans for the next year I gifted the TARDIS to another camp. That was a rush build and It was super awesome to hear they did improvements and took that TARDIS not just to conventions but also back to burning man at Happy camp! Well this upped my game for 2012 with the TARDIS 2.0 art car. I ran into problems in 2013 with the TARDIS 3.0 art car when I completely rebuilt the inside so that the walls will rotate as I drive ( if you have seen Doctor Who the TARDIS spins as it travels through time.) Well this year I have received my invitation and I am working to have the new TARDIS running perfect. This will also be the first year that I will be bringing others with me and we have bigger plans if everything works out. I can't wait to see everyone and to show the family I am bringing with the place we all call home!

Super excited!

Hehe It wasn't easy. Here https://www.flickr.com/photos/majorruck ... 185186349/ There you can see a pic of the frame and a video of the walls in action. It is 4 parts that make a column at the center of the TARDIS. The top tier is a steel H that attaches to the edges of the walls and is welded to a flat plate of bearings out of a recliner that allows it to turn easily. I stand on the small platform 3 feet of the ground so I can see out the top of the windows while steering. :D

I should add to this that I have a pulley welded to the top tier and would like to add a motor to turn the walls. The motor I tried last year could not cut it but I could easily turn it by hand.

I love that you called this thread "Well it is about time..." and it's become about your TARDIS.

Now do you shout "geronimo" or "allons-y" or do you offer jelly babies?

Welcome to ePlaya. You may care to post a thread announcing and talking about your Mutant Vehicle on the Mutant Vehicles forum.

No problem, I love talking about the TARDIS. The best part about bringing it is watching everyone's reaction to it. My camp is going for placement in the 3 o'clock neighborhood if you want to check it out I can give you the full tour.

Hahaha! I have not done any of those things yet but I think I will put jelly babies on my list of things to bring! :D

Loved the s'mores at YOUtopia last year - I was one of the many who voted in favor of chocolate with almonds.

Even more exciting is the possibility of seeing the TARDIS spinning along the playa.
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

My pals Greenbean and Smurfy K are in charge of the s'mores. They have been doing it for years before I got there. I just help build stuff and bring the TARDIS, which I hope you get to see in action. I plan on taking her out twice a day for a night and day run around parts of the city. I will post under theme camps when I hear about placement, so anyone who would like a look can drop by if you don't see me out anywhere.

Lamplighters are having a Brown Coat party on Saturday 2pm-4pm if the TARDIS is interested in crossing the sci-fi streams a bit.

I will put that on my list and try to make it. It could make up for last year when the TARDIS had problems and had to be pushed back into my camp. I was on my way to the Lamplighters Doctor Who party* but I had to go without it

Yep, that was us. We did have a giant Dalek come by, but funny enough, he also took some battle damage en route.

Besides, showing up exactly one year late is just the doctor's style.
