Grease trap?

So yeah, we are birgens. But we have been diligent... Most recently attended Flipside and tested most of our systems.
Dome... Check
Genny... Check
Water conservation... Check
Shower... Check
Kitchen water waste... IXNAY.

Greywater from the kitchen was very consentrated and greasy.
As a result we are planning multiple grey water streams.
Anyone have a playa-tested design for a grease trap?

Honestly, grease is one of the big reasons we do not cook on the playa, we reheat precooked foods.

Check some other posts on cutting back kitchen water waste. If your H2O conservation is good, you shouldn't have much kitchen water to deal with, much less grease. Some ideas:

Pre-cook your bacon at home.
Bread or tortillas to soak up juicy food off plates
Scrape food waste into a mesh bag or burlap, It dries out quick and packs out as trash or compost
Smart meal planning for stuff that's not sticky/greasy/messy
Clorox cleaning wipes to rub down dishes w/o water.
Spray bottle for quick rinse and air-dry
Don't use a bin to wash dishes, it only encourages extra water use.

I had a 5 gallon Homer bucket with a tight fitting lid for my blackwater and grease. At the end, I filled it with Playa dust so it wouldn't slosh around and brought it home and disposed of it. Of course that wouldn't work if you're flying in.

Precook your bacon?!!! Oh hell no! If there's anywhere not to skimp on bacon, the playa is it.
How do you have such greasy gray water? I just have a coffee can for a grease pail and dump it in there.
If a frying pan is that greasy I wipe it out with a paper towel before washing it.
Basically, I just try to keep the grease separate from the water rather than separating the two later.
Let there be proper bacon!

That bacon grease won't even spoil. Just keep the dust off it (or not?) and use it to fry up eggs, potatoes, and other good foods throughout the week. Recycling and all that. Of course there's always the danger that you'll eat so much bacon that you'll have too much grease, but at least it isn't as much.

Clorox cleaning wipes to rub down dishes w/o water.
Spray bottle for quick rinse and air-dry

If you use clorox wipes on dishes, be 100% diligent about rinsing them thoroughly. My burgins cleaned the plates with the wipes, but did not rinse them. Larry ended up in the med tent. We only use a splash of hot water on the dishes now, maybe a touch of Doc B., but nothing says poop and vomit like cleaning agents in your guts.

Hang a wick in a mason jar.
Pour your left over bacon grease in. (May require several pounds of bacon being cooked)
Light the wick.
Instant bacon candle!

don't forget, you can save your grease to the side.
much good alchemy and many good products, can be had with the magic of grease and playa, as a lube and sunscreen, not to mention the hair products and foot rub, lip balm (may be concurrent with lube), and anti chafing (again, possible with lube) applications.

As a single camper i use the bucket with kitty litter for all kitchen water.. I line the bucket with toilet bags.. It also serves as an emergency toilet in the middle of the night or on the road.. Pack in pack out..

A-ha, I hadn't thought of potential risk from cleaning wipes, good call, although we haven't had any problems so far.

l did some searching and found similar wipes specifically made for dishes or eco-marketed kid-friendly cleaning wipes that I'll try this year instead of the Clorox, as well as making sure to spray the dishes well with water after. Still there's little to no kitchen waste water.

If I had the dedication to monitor raw meat and drain grease, I'm sure fresh bacon would taste better! But if not, I've been very pleased w/ the bacon I precook at home, it still tastes great and stays crispy in a zipper bag and doesn't run the risk of funking up cooler water. But that's just me, I admire Playa chefs, but I'm not one!

I've mentioned in other threads... WalMart sells a bio wipe in camping(brand name coleman).. These wipes can go in the compost pile.. They degrade in a short time.. I have used these at camp then boiling water everything after.. Two to three cups of water at a boil makes a safer kitchen. p.s. don't forget your tongs..

I've been thinking about this somewhat and I went out and purchased a bunch of those Mountain House instant meals.

Everyone I've spoken to says they taste great and they are no more complicated than Top Ramen. You pour the hot water in the bag of food and wait until it's ready to eat. Then just roll up the empty bag and seal it in a zip lock. Do that a dozen times and you have one zip lock of garbage and no dishes to wash other than maybe a spork.

I also purchased Dr. Bronner's soap which is suppose to break down much easier than other soaps, this will make treating the grey water prior to evaporation much easier.

I'm not going to suffer though, I still plan on bringing a significant amount of smoked salmon and plenty of Bloody Mary Mix to keep me hydrated.

The plan is to have 100+lbs of dry ice and an alternate wet ice cooler to take care of the "essentials," but I think the staple meals and their related garbage generation have been accounted for.

My inelegant, lazy solution: I take a large container with a screw top and label it: Bad liquids. When the week is over, I Seal it up and truck it home. The bad liquids go in the garbage with absorbable trash. The empty container is cleaned with plenty of soap is ready for reuse.

If you know anyone who buys Costco cat litter in the plastic 3 or 5 gallon containers, those work well.
