Thanks, MDF and E. I do think one day I will make it happen.

Though, it's good to have a reminder or two that "one day" could be tomorrow or this afternoon, which is a hell of a lot more satisfying than the typical "one day" being... never.

So, I'll focus on mustering the energy for baby steps, which seem less daunting and more open to experimentation, trial and error, and fun.

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

Hi Joeln! good and yay, for your sweety! Consider, BRC can bring out extremes in behavior and emotion. Might be good, (since it sounds like your relationship is fairly new?), to discuss stuff........

there is at least one good thread here somewhere related to relationships and first trips to TTITD.

Yeah Yggy,
I don't really know if I'll survive, much less a new relationship...
We're pretty easygoing together so there is hope.

I probably can use a trial by fire or two anyways.
Cheers!

Having lunch with Yggy today in Auburn. My treat. I can catch up on all the gossip then. Like when MDF showed up and must have said something along the lines of, "Hay, let's have a party and go to Reno and stuff and not invite Doc Pyro!"

Packing lists? I made one in my first year, haven't bothered since.

Yeah, new relationships can be tricky on the playa. It's been described as like being in a pressure cooker and being under the microscope, I think there's probably some truth to all of that. Good communications, and a solid understanding that you're both going to go through a full range of emotions and stresses throughout the course of the week. A lot of people experience diet and sleep pattern changes, plus they're getting more exhausted each day (than they would at home) going out and doing stuff the whole time. My gf and I had only been together for 3 months before we not only went to the playa together, but led a camp of a dozen people (where she and I were the only ones who'd ever been to the playa before)... and we're still standing (and together) 8 years later. Mind you, every single one of the other campmates who were in relationships all came apart either on the playa or within a few weeks...

Like Yggy said, discuss stuff. If you talk beforehand and understand those things, and you do some reading on the relationship threads on the board, you might live.

BSG, trial and error can be a lot of fun, and you just may come up with a more novel approach to the problems you encounter than any web page will have on it. Baby steps is a great place to start!

Great pic, Ygmir!

Good Morning All. :coffee: :coffee: - that looks good Yggy...and the beverage does too!

So Joeln...didn't I read somewhere that your ex and your daughter were also going to be out there??!!
You are a brave and daring man...

If you need a place to hide from all of that, you can come find me. I will be happy to offer refuge for a little while. The tricky part is, I have no clue where I will be!! I am aiming for the late afternoon/early evening part of town. :)

Thanks MDF, Trilo, Sadie.

Damn good community we have going here!
And yeah, Sadie, you read correctly.
Daughter won't be a big issue, she's a tough, savvy kid.
The ex may be a wild card, but she'll sort it out eventually.
And I do hope there's somebody around for when I go fetal - the group I'm camping with is looking good, TT120 is there.

Now I just have to re-start my packing momentum.

You're a brave man Joein!

The Afterburn Report is out - interesting reading. One tidbit that will make a difference is the implementation of something a lot of people have been asking for for years. It looks as if there will be an "Express" lane at the Greeter's Station this year.

Yeah, relationships ca be tough. I think coming to the playa together certainly is a test. Probably not the ultimate one but if it falls apart at BM, it would not have lasted anyway.

I'd suggest you both allow each other a lot of space. Make sure both of you get your chance to explore on your own as well as together (maybe explore by yourself and return to your favorite places together?)
At least that's one of the things that is crucial for me, I do need some time just for myself. And I get really bitchy if I am dehydrated. Drinking plenty of water and having some favorite foods and drinks certainly help.

Now, I should be cleaning. I'd much rather hang out here though...

Everyone gets bitchy when hot and dehydrated… that's one of the things they teach in Ranger training. When someone is being a butt plug, give them water.

Words of wisdom, these.

Let them cool down internally, and then the external takes care of itself. Handing an unopened bottle of water to someone (especially if it's straight out of an ice-cold cooler) is the most respectful and effective thing I know of to defuse most situations on playa. If one isn't enough, give them another. I ALWAYS bring extra water.

Yep, even though little bottles are wasteful, they can be golden on the playa.

If anyone is out and about on the playa and needs a place to sit for a cool down, our shade structure is always open behind the Home for Wayward Art. If no one is home, have a sit and a cold beer or get some water from the dispenser. Hushville, usually at one of the big T intersections.

I may be more than a little nuts, but these days on playa I put two teaspoons of Folger's instant, a teaspoon of real vanilla, and two Splenda in my water.

Then I shake it up while I hum this tune:

I guess I can tell you that we actually did drive through your town but quite by mistake (GPS error) while driving from Yggy's to Yosemite. Yeah yeah I know we were sadly lost, trying to find 49... *sigh* Missed Placerville altogether. :?

Well said, Captain. These days we train campmates to constantly remind each other to hydrate (anytime anyone drinks anything, say 'hydrate' out loud to remind out loud to remind others to drink fluids), plus we also bring a jumbo sized bottle of advil, 5htp, and electrolyte tablets for campmates to share. We also remind them that if they're feeling cranky, or if they feel fine but everyone's pissing them off, it's their body telling them it needs something (food, water, electrolytes, rest, etc).

I've got a bit of a flashback for you. I've been going through some old playa footage recently. At the time, technology and resources didn't allow for us to edit and post anything at a very high resolution. I thought it would be fun to try and go back through and see what I could pull together using all the pixels. That's proving to take a lot longer than I expected, both because there's lots of material to go through and because several other projects are all getting busy. Anyhow, I got the first piece done - it's a clip of my friend Darin playing at the Temple of Breaks in 2006. Ah, the dusty memories...

I hope the wild flowers and such were good?

good stuff Trilo!!

ha, I went for a "hike" yesterday evening......started at the actual Donner Summit (a few miles south of the I80 summit), and climbed about a thousand feet in 2 miles.........7k to 8K and back. 4 miles and it about killed me. haha
well, of course, being me, I had a .44 pistol, extra ammo, a couple liters of water, sweatshirt, phone, knife and all in a pack........
