Scream if you received a STEP ticket
Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
While there's no time stamp, I do have a "vague idea" of when I entered the queue. Just thought it might be kind of useful to track this stuff here.

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
The whole time-stamp thing was an incredible demonstration of FAIL in previous years. I wouldn't be surprised if the BMorg specifically took measures to randomize the time-stamps just to make the STEP queue position unknowable.

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
The site still says first come first served though so how would that work? Or do you mean like everyone who registered at 12:06 would be randomised and then everyone who registered at 12:07? I thought the whole thing was that because the system is not in fact run with atomic precision there is some randomness automatically built in anyway?
Anyway to answer your question Jason, my boyfriend registered vaguely within the first 15 minutes of STEP opening and has not gotten an offer yet so I think you've got a while to wait yet. That said the rate of people registering would have slowed down substantially once all the people who set alarms and were sitting ready at their computers right on midday were done and although the rate of tickets becoming available has probably slowed down now that the first rush is *presumably* over there's a good chance it will pick up again as the event gets closer. So basically your wait time is unknowable and all you can do about that is wait more. Good luck though.

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
The confirmation emails, and therefore the "time-stamps" could be processed in batches and randomized with respect to each other. Sure, having a time-stamp from one day, and another from a different day would indicate relative positions, but there are many other factors that make this whole queue process very random and unpredictable, rendering the time-stamps essentially useless. For one, you have no idea how many people signed up between your time-stamp and some other time-stamp. So even if time-stamps indicated your relative position, all you know is the relative position, nothing else. There could be a few thousand of other people with the same 12:06 time-stamp between you and the guy with 12:05. More fundamentally, as a queue, any person has an equal probability of waiting as long as any other for a ticket (exponential distribution for service time) -- regardless of how long anyone else has waited or what position in the queue you are at.

Too many variables. And the people who might know, don't tell.JasonFL wrote:I did, and aside from some info on how fast the queue might move, I did not see any tracking.

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
There is no way to know how many people are in the queue since that information isn't released, therefor there is no way to know how long the wait will be. There is no way to know how many people will be contributing tickets to STEP, or when they'll do it, which is what the entire process depends on. There was absolutely no form of confirmation sent (other than on your Burner Profile), so there is no way to know how correct anyone's vague idea of when they entered the queue is.JasonFL wrote:While there's no time stamp, I do have a "vague idea" of when I entered the queue. In plain English: there is no way to know how long it's going to take, and there is no way to get a false sense of comfort out of some non-existent numbers. Hate to come off as harsh, but dancing around reality isn't going to change anything.

If you could hie to Kolob In the twinkling of an eye,
And then continue onward With that same speed to fly,
Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity,
Find out the generation Where Gods began to be?
Or see the grand beginning, Where space did not extend?
Or view the last creation, Where Gods and matter end?
Me thinks the Spirit whispers, “No man has found ‘pure space,’
Nor seen the outside curtains, Where nothing has a place.”
The works of God continue, And worlds and lives abound;
Improvement and progression Have one eternal round.
There is no end to matter; There is no end to space;
There is no end to spirit; There is no end to race.
There is no end to virtue; There is no end to might;
There is no end to wisdom; There is no end to light.
There is no end to union; There is no end to youth;
There is no end to priesthood; There is no end to truth.
There is no end to glory; There is no end to love;
There is no end to being; There is no death above.
There is no end to glory; There is no end to love;
There is no way of knowing; your step queue place above.

I just came in to scream on my boyfriend's behalf. There's so much shit going on in our lives that our response when it same through today was "let's just deal with that tomorrow" though..

thats awesome too hear STEP IS WORKING still and congrats sir
Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
Got a msg from my buddy who's been looking for a ticket that entered STEP and he got his notification last night.
It's funny because we had a burning man meeting the night prior and the fact that he didn't have a ticket yet didn't even come up... we all just believed.
It seems as things are starting to slowly pick up. Good luck to everyone else!

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
I'm curious what the STEP notification looks like. I'm going to be way off the grid a couple of times this summer and need to let DW know what to look for as she'll be checking my emails daily while I'm gone.

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
It'll be the email coming from either a TicketFly or Burning Man tickets email address. You can probably set up a filter in your email program so that any message including specific keywords will show up with a flag, or in red, or some other alert look, and make it even easier for her to spot.

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
My husband registered for STEP under his email address and profile and I was able to set it up in his email settings that any emails from @Ticketfly or @Burningman addresses also get forwarded to my email because he doesn't check his every day. I still get paranoid and ask him to check his email, but it certainly can't hurt anything for it to also be forwarded to her directly.

First time in the STEP program and just got my ticket today! Screaming all the way HOME!

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
As predicted, the line is indeed beginning to move. I received my STEP notification this afternoon, an email from Ticketfly with a link to purchase.
"You are the next person in the Secure Ticket Exchange Program (STEP) queue, and Burning Man tickets have become available for you to buy. You only have 72 hours from the time this email was sent to buy these tickets." with a click-able link to purchase at Ticketfly.
So, have hope!

The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.

Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
Whoo hoo. My friend got into the queue at T+15 minutes and was offered a ticket today. We bought the ticket with my name/credit card so it remains to be seen if it is properly assigned to me for pickup at Will Call ... but at least STEP came through. Wheeeeee.
Re: Scream if you received a STEP ticket
*SCREAM*
Got my 2 tickets + VP, very happy camper today
Tickets were offered to me 6/23 late night Pacific time - just took me a day to get some credit card stuff figured out (Ticketfly why you no PayPal)...
I entered the queue about 10 minutes after it first opened; I was sitting there refreshing the browser until the web page came up. I am guessing everyone above did more or less the same. So these are the early tickets coming in now. Which is WAY later than last year. Last year (2013) sign-up for STEP was a month earlier and my tickets came in a month after sign-up - I had tickets by mid April. this year - end of June
