First time UK couple looking to help out around the camp!

You do not HAVE to go with a them camp. Sure, it'll make preparation easier, I guess, and you'll meet tons of nice people. But in my opinion, part of the fun is in the planning and surviving. Last year I went with my best friend for the first time. We are from France and did not have a lot of time in the US to prepare, so we had to do everything from home (including planning to acquire a bike...). It was really great ! We are not at all experienced campers (I didn't even own a tent) but with a bit of preparation, evrything worked beyond expectations, and it made us proud to see that we could make it without any help

So, it's all up to you of course, but it's definitely not your only option. Being totally free to explore is also a good thing for a first burn.

I guess it's down to what you're looking for. Preparation isn't such a concern, it's more the opportunity to meet interesting people - seemed like being part of a bug camp would really help start that process off .

Sounds like you had an absolutely amazing experience without joining one though, I'm guessing you spent most of your time cruising around just meeting interesting people?

Glad to hear you had a great time preparing for it, did you consider going again this year?

No need to worry about that. Also definitely no need to join a theme camp for that. You can simply find a camping spot in any area that's not reserved and most likely you'll instantly be connected with "interesting people". There is also a multitude of places you can volunteer at spontaneously - Lamp Lighters, Recycle Camp, etc.

Granted there is no need to join a theme camp.However coming from OS for the first time it sure makes it a lot easier.

We have been inviting Burners from other countries to our camp for years as our contribution to the world wide BRC.We can offer logistical support that would take up a great deal of time,enegy and concern for someone coming from another continent.We provide,as I imagine a good number of other camps do, bikes,transport to the playa for their gear and themselves,shade for camping, infrastructure,power and some hand holding.Tough to get all that done on your own operating from a distance.

We would invite you to check us out but we have 8 UK campers this year and you might be looking for something you can't get at home.

Black Rock Fun Jet Camp is recruiting this year as well. This will be year 15 for me and year 12 for the core of the camp. We run a very interactive themecamp - a travel service with worldwide destinations, all in a space of 30 x 40. We bring a full kitchen, hot water shower, art car, bicycle corral, and great people. Virgins are especially appreciated. We do collect camp dues but furnish and transport all food and drinks (except for alcohol - bring your own). Drug and drama free. You've been talking to the wrong people. If you can tolerate and depend on yourself, that's better than depending on strangers, and you will meet interesting people without joining a cult.....I mean camp. But don't listen to me, because I do the burn all wrong. It's just that the belief that a theme camp is the main option, not self-sufficiency and being your own boss, is a cop-out that is gaining popularity. Join a theme camp if you share an idea for the theme, if you know each other, if they can provide what you can't, if in the union you can bring it bigger and better, if you enjoy their company. But don't do it because seemingly everyone else is doing it. You bring it. You be it.
