Great pics, littleflower!

Blessings and fine weather is wished for all at the Hof, and for those who aren't there as well.

Things got 'deja vu' today. I dood it again.

The last time was in 2005. Patrick was remapping the Crooked Creek impact, and was curious why certain things looked 'out of place'. And then, sitting right on the side of the road was this big-assed boulder. I looked at it a minute, and said, "Pat, have you seen these brachiopods yet?"

"What brachiopods? HOLY SHIT! Those are Mississippian! Where did those come from?

Sure enough, I'd found some rather rare Orthotetes keokuki that confirmed that the Crooked Creek impact was Mississippian in age, not Devonian as previously thought.

Today, I was the one who said "HOLY SHIT!" Patrick came over and looked at an intact Pennsylvanian brachiopod that I had just found. It was just 1/2 an inch across, but it's a specimen that may rewrite the geologic history of the area, and prove conclusively that the Decaturville Impact wasn't Ordovician in age.

I'm a happy little camper right now. Have a great Hof party!

Rhino, I feel like I could learn a lot from you! I love taxonomy, but my knowledge is almost exclusively limited to extant taxa. Plus the more charismatic extinct megafauna, of course.

I agree!
ygmir, do not worry next year! If you do, we will have to give you a time out in the shady hof on a recliner with a large cool drink. Maybe it is a testament to your excellent preparation and hard work, perhaps an illusion created by your inestimable hosting talent, but the event seems to run on rails. I wish I could fold up time and have that Saturday dinner three nights running instead of trying to do three nights worth in one evening. I've been wondering what the cherries littleflower brought were intended for since they absolutely made that cobbler. Marty, so wonderful to do the drive with you and get an extra day of vacation.

You know the truth Rhino,
We value PAssion..and you do have it whether it is tamales or earth

Elorrum , so right on !

Maybe we could all surround him with loving fan waves to reassure him of the excellence.

and yes, the cherries gave it the final celestial taste nudge

Sounds and looks like a great weekend, and so much yum too.

My weekend involved digging through storage, hauling and organizing gear, making supply runs as we prep for bgirl, and then doing the big paradey thing. Then today was a bag of crazy squished between meetings and more supply runs. I'm beat, but still have lots to try and do.

*staggers in*
dang it's hot! 103.
I had to run up to the Hof today, to get my ice chest full of goodies I forgot........and just stood there, alone, silent , looking at the nicely cleaned, but well used "social zone" around the fire pit, all the tracks and marks where people camped......honestly, I got a little misty eyed........
What, on the whole earth, is better than seeing and being part of, a group of people such as were there, and than now exist in far flung locals? The pure fun, hijinx, love, and frivolity. How lucky are each of us, in attendance, or in absentia, that those folks love and care, smile, laugh and pass a bottle around, without wiping the neck, before they drink.
I can only speak for me, but, I am humbled.
Humbled that folks would travel so far, at great expense and effort, to come to this spot for no reason other than to share some laughs and pork.
All friends of mine, and in that, I am a rich man! There or there in spirit, all I can say is "I love you all"..........I watched in the dark, tears streaming to see so many laughing and cooing and cleaning.....it was all smiles. I lingered in the shadows for a while, for this was my private reward......loved ones happy.

Thanks, everyone.

we are all so lucky to have such friends...not only at the hof....and eplaya...and TTID...but the bonds we've formed in all because of 'this'.
otherwise i'd be a hermit, thinking i was the only weird one.

Allergy meds, Yggy? Again?
You'd better not be allergic to the Hof!

Reading your post about going back for the cooler... got me misty-eyed, too. So sad to have missed the shenanigans. Aiming for next year...

I hope you feel better soon! :D

My best present? Getting my van and good chair back. The one I've been using has crappy batteries, and HURTS MY BUTT WHEN I SIT ON IT.
to be sure, not at first, but over the course of the day, and over the course of a few days--very ouchy indeed.
I need to get it upholstered...
